Do the other two guys own a house and are they panhandling for money to buy land? One lady from my Facebook page thinks they might have a house over by Kennedy High School (which is a nice part of town).
Do you give money to panhandlers?
Around 1:20 a.m. at the Casey’s General Store, 1201 First Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids. Aman wearing dark clothing and a black ski-mask entered the store, showed a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk, officer said early this morning.
He then ran away with an unknown amount of money.Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call police at (319) 286-5491. Tips can also be left anonymously by calling Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463).
We have got to get a grip on the crime taking place in this city!
Westdale Mall Sale in Cedar Rapids Sets up Partial Demolition
Byers, a Realtor at Gibbs Lamb Drown Commercial in Cedar Rapids and developer of the successful Marketplace on 1st retail center across First Avenue East from Lindale Mall, cautioned that a few details need to be worked out before his investor group closes on the property purchase.
However, Frew, president/CEO of Frew Development Group and the project manager of the city’s downtown convention complex and hotel projects, said Friday that he and his group have signed the land lease deal with Byers, adding, “Our company is certainly expecting the project to happen.”
“I think it’s all going to come together,” Frew continued. “At long last we’re in a position to move this project forward.”
Frew, who is based in Denver, Colo., came close to buying the mall earlier this year before last-minute problems over existing tenant leases caused him to set his purchase offer aside.
Frew said the current redevelopment plan is the same as the earlier one. That is, to create a “multiuse destination” around the mall’s anchor stores with a development of apartments, condominiums, retail stores, offices, restaurants, a park and a hotel.
The site, he said, will come to be known as Westdale, not Westdale Mall, and he said it will not be unlike the transformation that turned Southglenn Mall in the Denver area into The Streets at SouthGlenn.
“It will be a city within a city, a place where people shop, eat, work, play and sleep,” Frew said
Interesting idea, wonder where they came up with it.

“CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Opponents of a proposal to build a gaming casino in Cedar Rapids or the metro area are organizing and are on the move as the local petition drive by casino backers pushes ahead with a May 7 target date for a referendum on gaming in Linn County.
In recent weeks, the opposition has surfaced by way of a phone survey designed to assess how voters in Linn County felt about the Cedar Rapids casino proposal of an investor group led by Cedar Rapids businessman Steve Gray.”
Those who control those who claim they represent you in local government want to open a casino. Of course, the Linn County Board of Supervisors and Cedar Rapids City Council have voted to support a casino. More is involved than heeding their masters voice.
Like the mob during the golden age of Vegas, local government will get to skim the take. There are some things money can’t buy.
Those backing a Cedar Rapids casino have been used to compliant, local government governing boards doing their bidding. The Cedar Rapids Downtown District crowd has drawn two deuces when what they want requires a referendum. Will their casino end up like their extended sales tax?
“Most upsetting, Rogers said, was a question that pointed out that Steve Gray had been an executive at the former McLeodUSA telecommunications firm at a time more than a decade ago when shareholders lost millions of dollars.”
Marcia Rogers is leading Vote Yes this time. Marcia gets mad if you point out any unpleasant facts. Will Marcia Rogers friends and family in local government and the Chamber make the casino referendum a yes?
Well funded players have come to town for Cedar Rapids big casino game. They are not selling watered stock. Their checks will not bounce.
Those locals have used a shaved deck to help themselves to taxpayer’s money. Those ruling Cedar Rapids may get trimmed on a referendum again.
I am kind of offended that the media is literally ignoring our local candidate for congress. While some outsider gets prime time coverage for being “interesting”. Really? How is Greg Hughes NOT INTERESTING? Does him making it on the Daily Paul as the ONLY liberty candidate in Iowa running for Congress count for anything? How about the fact that he is the chairman of the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee to the Iowa Supreme Court? Or how about the fact that he is the only viable candidate for congress who isn’t a lawyer!
Why does the media ignore Mr. Hughes? Well they ignore him based on a Governor race (from all four districts and all 99 counties) where he only got 3600 votes. I think that’s pretty good considering he got no real media coverage from the mainstream. Then Mr. Lynch from the Gazette mentioned polls- what polls? How are people supposed to make an informed decision when the media won’t cover them? It’s no wonder people from out of state are running for office! Would the media even know if someone from the Lange campaign didn’t point it out?
Check it out yourself I got it on video!
With little notice the Hughes campaign was able to put together an event that resulted in 33 people coming by asking questions and wanting signs.
Two hours is how long the event took place. There was free food and drinks (including beer). Jim Pate stood outside holding up the “Free Beer and Food” sign while people drove by they yelled “What’s the catch?” There was no catch. Just some good old fashioned face to face time with congressional candidate Greg Hughes!
We will be having another event soon! Stay tuned and go like “Greg Hughes for Congress” on Facebook!
The Greg Hughes for Congress Campaign has opened an office at 1917 Mt. Vernon Road SE. If you are interested in volunteering please give Greg a call at 319-651-3622 or come to the Greg Hughes for Congress Facebook page to discuss the issues or find out how you can help! Click here for more details!
It’s up to us to elect liberty candidates. When our court system is more about profit than doing its job, we have a problem. The only way we can fix it is to get the right people into elected positions. Only we can fix this! Take responsibility for your liberty and get involved today!
Families are being torn apart by the system and the courts are 99.9% of the problem. You can’t make this stuff up. There are too many stories to list on this blog but I will share a couple!
The stories make are enough to make one cringe!
A Iraq Veteran, a victim of the economy was late making his payments to the Child Support and a judge put him in jail over it! How is someone supposed to get caught up on Child Support if they can’t work? To make matters worse the veteran got caught up and even received a refund check but the judge didn’t care he ordered more jail time. That doesn’t make any sense at all. Why are judges wasting our resources to imprison people for debt? If people were going to be imprisoned for their debt then why isn’t Congressman Joe Walsh in prison for being $175,000 behind? Something just isn’t right.
Another Iowa father, Michael, is ordered by a judge to do supervised visits with his mother in-law. Even though she stated that she would “rather take a knife and stick it in his throat than look at his face”. What kind of judge puts a child that they are supposed to be protecting in a predicament like that? Iowa Judges that’s who!
Not only are our families under attack but our civil liberties are as well. We need a congressman who believes in the Constitution and internet freedom. Can we count on Bruce Braley to continue to vote against these attacks on our civil liberties? I don’t know. What will Ben Lange do? Who knows! They are both lawyers and we all know that lawyers aren’t going to stop madness in the judicial system!
It’s up to us to put the power of the people back into the people’s hands. It’s time to step out of the two party paradigm and really study the candidates. What has Bruce Braley done for us over the last six years besides vote against SOPA? He pretends to be a liberty candidate when the issue is high profile. Where does he stand on the Red Light cameras? Where does he stand on anything really? Greg Hughes is recognized as District 1’s “Liberty Candidate” by the Daily Paul
