Worship Those Who by Taxation Falsely Profit

Worship_Cedar_RapidsCedar Rapids, Iowa: The new city gateway sign is 42 feet long and features an 18-foot-tall vertical panel of a downtown skyline, Cedar Rapids’ name atop an image of one of the downtown bridges and stone formations and native plantings at its base.
It’s hard to see the stone and landscaping for the chain link.
http://thegazette.com/2013/06/24/cedar-rapids-new-150k-gateway-sign-challenged-by-dot-chain-link-fence/

The taxpayers of Cedar Rapids paid over $156,000 to erect a monument of misplaced faith. Praise be to the forces of nature that keep obscuring it with weeds.
The sign is not representative of the entire community. Nowhere on this sign does it say welcome. When visitors come to Cedar Rapids, they are not welcomed. The spires of Downtown stand as temples telling all where they should worship the powers that be.

All that matters to the elite ruling Cedar Rapids is the Downtown District. Downtown has become a holy relic not unlike the mummified foreskin of some ancient saint.

Iconic views of the holy must be presented to the ignorant traveler. May they know to bow their heads when passing the altar upon which local taxpayers are sacrificed.
Woe be unto heretics. Those who blaspheme the sacred writ of ancestral swamp sand trust funds handed down through the ages must be punished.

Be they ejected from chamber of the City Council priests who serve their Chamber Pot lords. If still learn the heathen rage, far worse shall befall them.

As it was in 1920, Cedar Rapids Downtown District shall be forever and forever. Sales tax increase without end. Tax and spend. Tax and spend.

Lisa Kuzela files conflict of interest charges against Mayor Ron Corbett

PRESS RELEASE:

lisa1Lisa Kuzela files conflict of interest charges against Mayor Ron Corbett

On Monday, February 25, 2013, Lisa Kuzela submitted to the Iowa State Ethics Board claims of conflicts of interest that Mayor Ron Corbett has violated Iowa Code 68B.2A which prohibits outside employment and activities. Those charges have been forwarded to the Linn County Attorney’s office.

The pertinent subsections to the code are as follows:

According to:
Iowa Code 68B.2A – “Prohibited Outside Employment and Activities-Conflicts of interest:”
“Any person who serves or is employed by the state or a political subdivision of the state shall not engage in any of the following conduct:”
“Outside employment or an activity that involves the use of the state’s or the political subdivision’s time, time, facilities, equipment, and supplies …”

In addition, specifically regarding employment conflict…
“Outside employment or an activity that is subject to the official control, inspection, review, audit, or enforcement authority of the person, during the performance of the person’s duties of office or employment.”

Corbett was the Vice President of Human Resources at CRST. John Smith was President and CEO of CRST International, Inc. and is currently Chair. David Rusch is the current President and CEO of CRST. Corbett supposedly remains employed by CRST, although questions remain as to if he actually works there or simply receives a salary under a fictitious position.

Corbett has a personal interest through his official capacity of mayor which has benefitted John Smith and David Rusch at CRST which violates State Law.

The most recent actions he has taken in regards to the casino have prompted me to finally file an official complaint and request for an investigation.

My suspicion rose first when I learned who the investors were. They included John Smith and David Rusch of CRST.

Two weeks ago I learned about the Agreement between the Cedar Rapids Development Group (“investor” group) and the Linn County Gaming Association (nonprofit group) which states that if there is any debt incurred on the land or operations, then a “third party” will cover that debt. I knew what that meant. Again, the city taxpayers will be subsidizing another facility. But this time, it will be for Corbett’s employers.

Last week, I learned of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (see attached) that Corbett approved at the October 9, 2012 City Council meeting.

This Memorandum is basically a no-competition declaration stating that the City will exclusively support the Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC and the Linn County Gaming Association, Inc. They will not consider anyone else who wants to bid for the gaming license.

This created an environment in which there can’t be competition. A bid process would have been in the form of bidding a higher percentage of funds to go to the nonprofit who then allocates it to the community.

By doing so, Corbett not only dishonored the residents, costing them tens of millions, but he secured that those proceeds will stay in the hands of the investor group, of which Smith and Rusch are investors.

The MOU that Corbett supported therefore:
1) secured that this investor group, of which Smith and Rusch are members, Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC, and no one else, would be sole ownership of the casino, entertainment, gift shops, etc. proceeds – as stated in the Agreement;
2) secured that a lower percentage of proceeds be distributed into the community;
3) secured that this investor group will make millions more (that otherwise would’ve gone into the community).

Note that I don’t think that a bid process is required under law or regulations in this situation, however, through Corbett’s official actions, he has granted favor to Smith and Rusch of who Corbett is employed.

This MOU agenda issue was a critical one for Cedar Rapids, yet was not only not discussed at the council meeting; it was noticeably inconspicuously placed on the consent agenda. No council member pulled it off to discuss, and it was passed by the simple vote of passing the consent agenda.

The Resolution was signed by Mayor Corbett October 9, 2012. (See attached)

Extended information: The casino conflict of interest has many tentacles …

In April 2012, I, along with others, attended and spoke at a House Ways and Means Subcommittee regarding Senate File 2217 – a $600 million bill for “flood protection” in which Mayor Corbett strongly lobbied for. At that meeting, there were two lobbyists from CRST. At the time none of us could understand why they were there.

This bill, signed into law April 19, 2012, was so broadly worded that it allows any project to be funded under this bill, as long as part of the major project qualifies as “flood protection.” This includes a casino.

Senate File 2217, Section 4 – New Section 418.1 Definition #5 “Project”
“A project may consist of one or more phases of construction or reconstruction that are contracted for separately if the larger project, of which the project is a part, otherwise meets the requirements of this subsection.”

Although the bill states the funds would be granted to the “governmental entity,” this city knows how to get around that. Three LLCs (Courthouse II LLC, Courthouse II Tenant LLC, and Courthouse II Manager LLC) were created for the former Federal Courthouse / new City Hall, in which they used all public funds to rehabilitate. By doing this, not only did the taxpayers end up paying more, but it bypassed any bidding process that was required by law with these funds and prevented transparency.

There’s already an LLC formed for the casino – Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC. I predict they will do the same with the casino – providing even more funding to the “investor” group – all with our tax money!

Now that the casino project is being pushed and John Smith and David Rusch have been named as investors, I think I understand now why a trucking company located miles from the river was lobbying for a “flood protection” bill.

Currently, as I predicted, Corbett and Senator Rob Hogg are lobbying the Board (established under this bill) to have part of the casino project count as flood protection.

However, if this is granted by the Board then, according to the bill, the taxpayers, rather than the investors, can be paying for the construction of the casino project with the appearance that the investor group (LLC) is paying for it.

Sidebar: Each phase or subproject is capped at receiving $15 million through this law. In addition it requires a “local match.” However, the State received a waiver from HUD allowing the CDBG Disaster Assistance to count as a local match. Therefore, with this match, it allows Corbett to help fund up to $30 million per phase / subproject of the major casino project. Thereby, leaving the investor group, of which John Smith and David Rusch of CRST are investors, to invest very little, if any, toward the casino, obligating Local, State and Federal taxpayers to fund the construction of the casino.

Recently, it’s been published that Ron Corbett has historically opposed a local casino. I even heard him say so at a dinner during his campaign at the Islamic Center in Cedar Rapids. He said that the market is saturated and it doesn’t make sense to have another one here.

Now he suddenly supports a casino.

Of course this sudden change of attitude about such a major issue is usually explained away politically, but when all these facts are pieced together, questions can’t help but be raised as to why he is now using his elected position as mayor to push through the casino upon which Smith and Rusch are an investors.

“CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Opponents of a proposal to build a gaming casino in Cedar Rapids or the metro area are organizing and are on the move as the local petition drive by casino backers pushes ahead with a May 7 target date for a referendum on gaming in Linn County.

In recent weeks, the opposition has surfaced by way of a phone survey designed to assess how voters in Linn County felt about the Cedar Rapids casino proposal of an investor group led by Cedar Rapids businessman Steve Gray.”

http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/Cedar-Rapids-Casino-Opposition-Surfaces-182608411.html

Those who control those who claim they represent you in local government want to open a casino. Of course, the Linn County Board of Supervisors and Cedar Rapids City Council have voted to support a casino. More is involved than heeding their masters voice.

Like the mob during the golden age of Vegas, local government will get to skim the take. There are some things money can’t buy.

Those backing a Cedar Rapids casino have been used to compliant, local government governing boards doing their bidding. The Cedar Rapids Downtown District crowd has drawn two deuces when what they want requires a referendum. Will their casino end up like their extended sales tax?

“Most upsetting, Rogers said, was a question that pointed out that Steve Gray had been an executive at the former McLeodUSA telecommunications firm at a time more than a decade ago when shareholders lost millions of dollars.”

Marcia Rogers is leading Vote Yes this time. Marcia gets mad if you point out any unpleasant facts. Will Marcia Rogers friends and family in local government and the Chamber make the casino referendum a yes?

Well funded players have come to town for Cedar Rapids big casino game. They are not selling watered stock. Their checks will not bounce.

Those locals have used a shaved deck to help themselves to taxpayer’s money. Those ruling Cedar Rapids may get trimmed on a referendum again.

Our Gary Johnson/ Greg Hughes Sign Wave encounter with Blairsferry Beggar

We went to the triangle on Blairsferry Road NE and I380 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where we met the panhandler. Even though we weren’t even in his vicinity (we were across the street) he got mad and yelled at us for “coming around”. We weren’t there asking for any money. We were doing a sign wave exercising our freedom of speech and expression. He acted as if he was entitled to this tiny piece of land and I wonder, does he pay taxes on it? How about the money he makes? He was not nice! We tried to include him offered to “help” him (his sign said “Please help”) but he didn’t want our help he wanted us gone so that he could make money. I’ve given people money on that corner. Never again.

Aside from the rude panhandler we received positive feedback from the drivers! We got a lot of honks and thumbs up. Only one middle finger! You can’t win them all.

My ticket this term 2012

The newspaper finally did a story on Greg Hughes but it seemed gender biased. I like Robin Tucker’s idea of taking gender out of the Iowa Constitution. That is something we can do at the grassroots level across the state if we’re tired of the gender bias going on- on all levels.

A couple years ago my son came up from Alabama to visit. He got permission from his father to stay. When I called asking for help he freaked out and filed charges on me. I tried to get a lawyer to help me. There was no way I could go to Alabama. Greg helped me act on behalf of myself and my parents were there in person. Had I not filed the paperwork I did I wouldn’t be here to type this blog. Greg Hughes is the real deal and it doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman.

I do a lot of court watching. I have gone to I don’t know how many court proceedings over the last few years. I’ve seen these judges in action. People complain about the judges but don’t vote on them. Educate yourselves! There will be more about how to do this on my blogs in the future. Things are spiraling out of control.

Which leads me to why I am voting for Gary Johnson and his Vice President pick Judge Grey. Both know that things have spun out of control within our judicial system. Kids are going to jail and made into criminals over a plant! Why? Because the government can’t figure out how to make money off of it without locking people up for smoking it. Ridiculous is what it is. Hemp could help our environment and essentially save our economy! It’s not like people aren’t going around finding alternatives to smoke to get past the drug testing. I would rather be around a bunch of pot heads than a bunch of people smoking incense! Now they are making up MORE LAWS to restrict the legality of that!

Anyway…

Gazette Visits with Greg Hughes but not because they Called!

I am kind of offended that the media is literally ignoring our local candidate for congress. While some outsider gets prime time coverage for being “interesting”. Really? How is Greg Hughes NOT INTERESTING? Does him making it on the Daily Paul as the ONLY liberty candidate in Iowa running for Congress count for anything? How about the fact that he is the chairman of the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee to the Iowa Supreme Court? Or how about the fact that he is the only viable candidate for congress who isn’t a lawyer!

Why does the media ignore Mr. Hughes? Well they ignore him based on a Governor race (from all four districts and all 99 counties) where he only got 3600 votes. I think that’s pretty good considering he got no real media coverage from the mainstream. Then Mr. Lynch from the Gazette mentioned polls- what polls? How are people supposed to make an informed decision when the media won’t cover them? It’s no wonder people from out of state are running for office! Would the media even know if someone from the Lange campaign didn’t point it out?

Check it out yourself I got it on video!

Question Everything!

Greg Hughes First Event

With little notice the Hughes campaign was able to put together an event that resulted in 33 people coming by asking questions and wanting signs.

Two hours is how long the event took place. There was free food and drinks (including beer). Jim Pate stood outside holding up the “Free Beer and Food” sign while people drove by they yelled “What’s the catch?” There was no catch. Just some good old fashioned face to face time with congressional candidate Greg Hughes!

We will be having another event soon! Stay tuned and go like “Greg Hughes for Congress” on Facebook!

Greg Hughes for Congress ~ The Issues

It’s up to us to elect liberty candidates. When our court system is more about profit than doing its job, we have a problem. The only way we can fix it is to get the right people into elected positions. Only we can fix this! Take responsibility for your liberty and get involved today!

Families are being torn apart by the system and the courts are 99.9% of the problem. You can’t make this stuff up. There are too many stories to list on this blog but I will share a couple!

The stories make are enough to make one cringe!

A Iraq Veteran, a victim of the economy was late making his payments to the Child Support and a judge put him in jail over it! How is someone supposed to get caught up on Child Support if they can’t work? To make matters worse the veteran got caught up and even received a refund check but the judge didn’t care he ordered more jail time. That doesn’t make any sense at all. Why are judges wasting our resources to imprison people for debt? If people were going to be imprisoned for their debt then why isn’t Congressman Joe Walsh in prison for being $175,000 behind? Something just isn’t right.

Another Iowa father, Michael, is ordered by a judge to do supervised visits with his mother in-law. Even though she stated that she would “rather take a knife and stick it in his throat than look at his face”. What kind of judge puts a child that they are supposed to be protecting in a predicament like that? Iowa Judges that’s who!

Not only are our families under attack but our civil liberties are as well. We need a congressman who believes in the Constitution and internet freedom. Can we count on Bruce Braley to continue to vote against these attacks on our civil liberties? I don’t know. What will Ben Lange do? Who knows! They are both lawyers and we all know that lawyers aren’t going to stop madness in the judicial system!

It’s up to us to put the power of the people back into the people’s hands. It’s time to step out of the two party paradigm and really study the candidates. What has Bruce Braley done for us over the last six years besides vote against SOPA? He pretends to be a liberty candidate when the issue is high profile. Where does he stand on the Red Light cameras? Where does he stand on anything really? Greg Hughes is recognized as District 1’s “Liberty Candidate” by the Daily Paul
