Cedar Rapids, Iowa underwent an epic flood in June 2008 but nothing has been more frustrating than the lies and undermining going on within city politics.
The mayor claims he will protect all the neighborhoods yet the city’s “Preferred Flood Plan” snuffs out more than one neighborhood! The city wants a 20 year commitment yet they continue to seek input when they haven’t listened to the input we have already given over and over.
I know that I personally spent more than 30 hours in the Neighborhood Planning Process and I am gravely disappointed in the outcome. In other words the city had a plan and they really don’t want our input they just need to make certain they have asked. The city’s plan doesn’t include our homes or the input we gave them!
I am voting no May 3, 2011. As a member of the City’s Local Option Sales Tax Oversight Committee I am disappointed. The media makes it sound like our committee has some kind of authority but it doesn’t. Many decisions on how to spend the money are made before they are even brought before the committee to get our opinion on whether or not it meets the ballot language.
I think we can do better! It would be cheaper to raise everyone’s houses than to build and maintain a flood wall. The flood wall is a whole other issue I will have to blog another time! http://wecandobettercr.com/
