I woke up to the sound of destruction this morning.  I knew it was D’s house the bulldozer has sat there all weekend to prepare us for its demise.  As I walked by it yesterday I noticed the windows were all  relatively new -D was fixing his house up before the flood-and most of the windows could of  been salvaged or donated to others who are trying to rebuild.  I couldn’t go to school using my normal route I knew that there was much more going on than I even I was not ready  for what I saw when I got home.   Less than two years ago we the block was mad at him for throwing late night parties.  I miss them now.  His house is gone.

I found several empty lots where houses sat yesterday.

On the up side Jim Prosser quit as our city manager today.  I will be  interested in seeing what transpires over the next few weeks-the city council blamed Jim Prosser for everything.  I wonder who they will blame next.  I don’ t know if I should panic or party or have a panic party-more to come on this issue!

On the domestic front-my phone service sucks down here-I went to i-wireless AND called them not once but twice I called my daughter and couldn’t even get through.  God forbid there was an emergency-seemed to have been an issue only within a 5 block radius. The first guy said I should address the city about the issue-I was like um-my mom lives on a foot hill in Alabama and my service there was better than it is here and only within 5 blocks.  Then I got a number from my daughter of a local i-wireless employee- who claimed he hadn’t heard of the complaint but I was just in the store that he said he worked at!  He hooked me up with another i-wireless service person that was very kind.  I explained that I was sitting right outside the dead zone that wasn’t dead before the great flood of 2008.  She asked if I had a number I could be called back at and I gave her Greg’s number and informed her that I had called him before I called the number my daughter gave me.  I got a ‘trouble ticket’ and she said she would send out a technician.

A few hours passed and I get a call from Greg saying that he got a call from a woman named Stephanie-who was very nice from i-wireless and she said that they found a problem in the area and they believe that they have it fixed.  Our phones have been decent since then-I have my fingers crossed.

When you pay for a service and your service sucks and you can’t even make a phone call to save your life you might want to call your phone company’s customer service and lodge a complaint-it might actually be listened to!

Does anyone remember billing errors or computer glitches that created mistakes without human intervention and how hard they were to correct and the computer somehow remained blameless. These mistakes could create large numbers of errors with much human intervention to correct and many hours and dollars lost. Now take an accountant or a payroll clerk and they make one mistake before computers. Did people take this personally? How was the person treated that made the mistake? This person may have made thousands of entries with one error in 10,000. Percentage wise this is acceptable. The error was usually corrected with one contact. The individual was treated poorly and ridiculed for the error. It seems as though we have accepted a different standard for computers than human beings.Remember when hanging up a phone on a person was rude. Now I dropped the call is acceptable. Remember when making a call on an inquiry took only a few minutes talking to a person with an action taking place that fixed what the call was about. Try calling a government agency with datria. Did not get that. My Wife was on the phone straightening out a billing error a week ago and it took 2 hours and 15 minutes. The phone company would have paid out more in wages than the error was worth. The good side is I can share this information with many in a short time.

Update on this-Our service is much better- there was a problem and had no one found a way to report this problem it would have sat. Never assume other people are taking care of something you have a concern about because chances are they aren’t!
