RE: “We are no longer the City of Five Smells”

Cedar Rapids Corrupt cityCedar Rapids, Iowa

We are no longer the City of Five Smells according to our Mayor, Ron Corbett. I wish I could bottle those non-existent smells because I totally would if it were possible. Cedar Rapids, Iowa has been, and always will be, the City of Five Smells. Some of the smells could be described as aromas. I mean who doesn’t love the smell we presume radiates from Quaker Oats, the smell of maple syrup or Captain Crunch, yum.

Other smells such as ADM can only be described as putrid, questionable, and outright offensive. The worst smell of all though doesn’t have any odor and that is the smell of corruption.

Perhaps the mayor could embrace the smells instead of denying their existence. For some these smells pay the bills and their very existence is comforting. Instead of denying the smells Mayor Corbett inspire a company like Febreze to bring in more jobs!

1625520_291136864367923_1951750586_n(1)I feel like the rosy, we are recovered, State of the City speech was a distraction from the bigger problems like the record debt, crumbling streets, and the talk about saving Ann Poe’s childhood home’s family fire pit over on Ellis Boulevard NW while the shell of the city owned abandoned home stands as a reminder that we are not recovered from the flood.

Let us not forget that we still don’t have any reasonable “flood protection” for the west side that the media will talk about.  Most people don’t know that the berm was stabilized by the City Corps of Engineers from Penn Avenue NW to N Avenue NW for $800,000 in 2010.

DSCN9975The sewer system is finally being worked on as I type! I am still curious to see what the city plans to do about the storm outlet into the river on N Avenue NW. The water isn’t able to drain from the from the creek by Harrison into the river because the water flows from the river into the outlet!

Some people who just want to move on from the flood aren’t totally recovered because they’re still being asked to pay taxes for land that the city desperately wanted to acquire. Our city can give their insurance company, True North, a $4 million dollar profit to acquire a property that they didn’t even own before the flood from our local option sales tax but they can’t clear up petty debt for these 18 homes?

Click here to read that story!

I wonder if these homes have city liens? Seriously, this happened on 6th Street NW. The city had mailing addresses for people whose homes were sitting there empty. Instead of mailing the homeowner a notice explaining that they were still responsible for things such as mowing their yard at their flooded out home, the city hung notices from overgrown bushes near the front door of the abandoned house. Many homeowners had no idea that the city was going to charge them by placing liens on the property being acquired!

There is no doubt the mayor would like to think the city smells like a bed of roses but it doesn’t!  He will have to accept the fact that our city always has and always will stink! He would like to think we have recovered from the 2008 flood but we are constantly reminded how skewed the city’s priorities were when we are reminded that rebuilt homes and churches have been demolished while the shell of Ann Poe’s childhood family continues to stand! That alone, stinks!

List of Demands

Iowas_Cleanest_Pot_Holes

Now that the city has the money to “fix streets” I DEMAND that they fix 35th Street NE, Oakland Road NE, and O Avenue NW BEFORE they do another streetscaping project!

Freedom of Information Doesn’t Mean Free Information

Freedom of Information isn’t Free

Cedar Rapids, Iowa
May 26, 2013
How much did taxpayers pay to rebuild, purchase and demolish those buildings on 1st Avenue and 1st Street SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa? Too much! But, the only way that the people who paid for it can find out about it is by obtaining public information.

How many people think that the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) means free information? You would think that freedom of information would mean free information but it doesn’t; it only means you’re free to ask for the information and pay for said information.

That’s right, if you want any real information you will have to pay for it!

The equivalency of the Federal’s FOIA is the State of Iowa and City of Cedar Rapids’ “Open Records” law and ordinance, respectively.

But, just how “open” are these records?

Lisa Kuzela

Lisa Kuzela:

Lisa Kuzela was the Vice Chair of the Local Option Sales Tax Oversight Committee (L.O.S.T.) when she asked for pertinent public information regarding where some of the funds from the L.O.S.T. account had been appropriated.

Kuzela asked for a list of the homes purchased with the L.O.S.T. funds and was told that it would “cost her $110 for six hours of time to compile the data”.

They then used the excuse that it was a “privacy issue,” even though the same requested information for properties purchased with FEMA and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds had already been publicly listed. So, why not make available those purchased with L.O.S.T?  There was never any justification for their excuses.

Don’t take my word for it go check it out yourself!

Assistant City Manager, Sandi Fowler, discusses Fees for Public Information

Kuzela is often charged for information requests from the City. On top of the research hourly fees, she is charged for scans – yes, scans! She is charged twenty-five cents per page to scan even though there is no ink or paper!

This clearly violates Iowa’s Open Records Law, State Code 22.3(2): “The fee for the copying service as determined by the lawful custodian shall not exceed the actual cost of providing the service. Actual costs shall include only those expenses directly attributable to supervising the examination of and making and providing copies of public records. ”

Kuzela states “when I pointed this out to the City, they said that the reason they have to charge the same for a scan as a hard copy is that the machine counts the scan the same as a copy. I told them I’ve never heard of such a thing and no one should have to pay for something when there’s no expense for it. However, I’ve gone along with this absurdity and been paying $0.25 per scanned page so I could get the information.”

If a citizen cares enough to request information they should not be charged for it if they are not requesting a hard copy of said information!

Kuzela goes on to say that within the past week, “they suddenly claim that the documents are off-site, so if I want the information, I have to pay them the time to go to another location to retrieve the documents at $20 per hour. This is over and above their hourly fee for the time it takes to scan (even though we have automatic feeders, now). This, too, is in addition to $0.25 per page to scan.”

What is wrong with the efficiency of our city if this information isn’t readily available – especially in the day of digital? Who are these people working for if they can charge taxpayers for public information – especially at a higher cost simply because they haven’t been well-organized in storing it?!

Aren’t we already paying them to do their job, and isn’t this part of their job? This all just sounds absurd to me!

But, it even gets worse!

Kuzela explains that “even though they’re emailing me the information (and therefore no supervising of staff is necessary while I review the information), they are now also saying that I have to pay a fee for ‘supervising the examination.’ So, does that mean I have to pay for an employee to supervise another? They haven’t responded to this question.”

I’m simply not buying that in this day and age when everything is digital that they don’t have this information scanned already and easily accessible! It’s obvious that the goal here is not to help the taxpayers get information, so they can oversee how their money’s being spent, but to prevent it. The City continually comes up with different excuses to make it as costly as possible in order to deter Kuzela from obtaining public information.

Adam Kokesh and the Inconsistencies between Police Reports and Video Footage on Youtube

I have been reading the police reports on Adam Kokesh and have watched so many different angles of his arrest on May 18, 2013 it’s not funny. There are many inconsistencies the reports.  There was  one video that stood out for me though. The video I found seemed to catch the best angle of the arrest.

Exhibit 1:

Lies

Charges against Adam Kokesh

On or about May 18, 2013, defendant ADAM KOKESH forcibly assaulted, resisted, opposed, impeded and interfered with officers and employees of the United States, that is, uniformed National Park Service Rangers while they were engaged in, and on account of, the performance of official duties, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111.
Title 18, United States Code, Section 111
50% of Hosting for your Website at GoDaddy.com!(a) In General.— Whoever—(1) forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates, or interferes with any person designated in section 1114 of this title while engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties; or (2) forcibly assaults or intimidates any person who formerly served as a person designated in section 1114 on account of the performance of official duties during such person’s term of service, shall, where the acts in violation of this section constitute only simple assault, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both, and where such acts involve physical contact with the victim of that assault or the intent to commit another felony, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.
(b) Enhanced Penalty.— Whoever, in the commission of any acts described in subsection (a), uses a deadly or dangerous weapon (including a weapon intended to cause death or danger but that fails to do so by reason of a defective component) or inflicts bodily injury, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.
Park Police officers approached Adam he did not approach them. His only crime was he was exercising his freedom of speech. The Park Police aggressively approached Adam Kokesh. Reports were that Adam Kokesh was charged with resisting arrest. What was Adam under arrest for? Was he smoking marijuana? No. Was he in possession of marijuana? No.
Exhibit II:

Exhibit II

Page 2 of  Adam Kokesh‘s charges

Here I have the lies told by the police underlined:

Adam Kokesh

Videos from several different angles tell a different story

Adam Kokesh and others were first surrounded and then arrested at a peaceful protest after attending said protest four times prior with police present without any problems. The officer testifies that he’s been on the force for eight years. The only person Adam Kokesh “locked arms with” was a Park Police Officer. Was the officer in possession of a marijuana cigarette? Lastly the officer claims that Adam “grabbed the ranger by the arm to hold him back.”  I did not see Adam push anyone.  I saw Adam pulling his left arm away from an officer who appeared to be trying to use a pressure point near the thumb.
Exhibit III:

adam kokesh

Page 3 of Adam Kokesh’s charges

In a park full of marijuana activists a marijuana joint was found. Did the police obtain Adam’s fingerprints off this alleged marijuana cigarette? If Adam Kokesh did the things that these police claim he would be required to have a third arm.  Last I knew he only had two arms.

I’ve heard a lot of things about the police in Pennsylvania and none of them were good. At the end of the video I made above I replayed in slow motion what the cops said right after they put Adam Kokesh into a cage like an animal. Take a listen and you tell me why did they really arrested Adam Kokesh. Pennsylvania the world is watching and the people are not impressed with your conduct!

Boston, Martial Law, and False Flags

cons I know -I know – don’t blog on these kinds of things or you’ll be looked at like a “conspiracy theorist” and you’ll “lose credibility”.  Let me be clear.  I am not one of those people who thinks that actors were staged in the streets of Boston pretending to be blown to bits.  I believe the bombing happened.  My condolences and prayers go out to the victims and the families of the victims.
I think what happened in Boston was horrible but what happened in Boston to our constitution was tragic.  Why are people so willing to give up their liberties for the sake of security?  Since when did American’s allow their government “rescue them at gunpoint”?  Many evacuated residents (people who cheered as the police left) didn’t even know that the real hero was just a resident who was outside smoking a cigarette when he noticed something “off”.  The police weren’t even responsible for finding the second suspect.

Pool of blood from suspect #1

People were probably cheering because the cops were finally leaving I know I would. My biggest issue since this event happened is how the police reacted to the whole situation. I watched people be removed from their homes at gunpoint on Youtube.  I listened to a woman’s chilling call into a radio station where she claimed that there was no “bomb” and that the first suspect was ‘run over by police’.  I’ve seen footage of the “shootout scene” by people who live in Watertown, MA that included large pool of blood and bloody smudge marks.

  • Police did not prevent either bomb
  • Police didn’t find the second suspect
  • Police did not uphold the United States Constitution

And then there was this:
According to the timeline I was following online during the attack “The Red Sox officially postponed tonight’s game at Fenway Park scheduled for 7:10 p.m. “to support efforts of law enforcement officers.” The make-up date has yet to be scheduled. The Bruins game and Big Apple Circus performance scheduled for tonight have been postponed, as well, according to Boston Police.” Wow.
What is a False Flag?  False flag (or black flag) describes covert military or paramilitary operations designed to deceive in such a way that the operations appear as though they are being carried out by other entities, groups or nations than those who actually planned and executed them. Operations carried during peace-time by civilian organizations, as well as covert government agencies, may by extension be called false flag operations if they seek to hide the real organization behind an operation.
Do I think the police were behind it?  No.  I do however think at this point that there might have been warning signs since local news reports now confirm that the mother of the suspect was on the FBI terror watch list in 2011.  It makes me wonder if they couldn’t have done more to prevent it from happening in the first place! Did officials allow this to happen to test martial law?  Time will tell.
I just don’t know about the reports that were aired.  There have been so many inconsistencies with the reporting of the Boston bombings it’s hard to discern what is fact from fiction! Like millions of Americans across the country I was glued to the television and watched Martial Law unfold  in Boston. What I heard the news report saying was alarming. How can police “rescue” people at the point of a gun?

The following was not aired on television.

Then we had ABC News Martha Raddatz  on television, live, comparing the streets of America to war torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. In my opinion comparing what happened in Boston to Iraq and Afghanistan is like comparing apples to oranges.  What happened in Boston could be comparable to what happens in Israel with the suicide bombings but no where near comparable to the illegal wars that continue to take place in Iraq and Afghanistan. I also noticed that Martha didn’t talk about the people America killed in Afghanistan that day.

  • America has not been leveled by bombs dropped from war planes.
  • America has not been “carpet bombed”.
  • America has not been ‘invaded’.
  • America is not a “war zone”.

I listened ABC News reports and what I heard over and over was “controlled explosions by  Snapshot - 34the police”.  I found a video online with evidence of this but the guy deleted it (good thing I have a copy of it huh). And since when do we use the military for police actions? Was the Boston Police Department so weak that they had to call them in for backup? Were they, as Alex Jones claims on Infowars.com a “False Flag Attack”?  We have yet to see the alleged surviving “bomber” but he is already being held in a federal prison according to ABC News.
What about the second bomb?  Where is the footage showing these guys dropping that bomb? Why is anyone who has questions about this considered a “conspiracy theorist”? When we are fed conflicting sound bites from the television and told “not to look at any other suspect than the ones that the FBI identified” it’s hard not to.  I hope that the FBI can show us the alleged bombers setting the bomb down on video to stop the rumor mill.  I am unhappy that my fellow American’s were  looking down the barrel of a government gun in the name of  “security” and suggest that law enforcement figure out another way. I pray that no other community is terrorized in such a way in the future.

Modern Day Alamo FREE TEXAS

April 21, 1836 -is the most important date in Texas history.  San Jancinto Day  is a state holiday and a day that has been reenacted for the last seventeen years at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte, just east of Houston.  This reenactment is the largest in Texas.
Having lived between Texas and Iowa throughout my childhood I have always consider myself ‘part Texan’. I attended 4th grade at Nolanville Elementary in Central Texas during the Cold War in the 80s. This was a time of great tension between the United States and the USSR.
free texasloveOrganizers of the 2013 festivities have “nixed” the Texas Nationalist Movement presentation at San Jancinto Day festivities.  The movement in Texas that has been working towards succeeding from United States of America. Organizers of the festival have also denied the Texas Nationalist Movement a booth to disseminate their materials because they are “too political”.  When I heard about this decision the Texan inside me became outraged! It would seem to me that these festival organizers would want to embrace the Texas Nationalist Movement and their message because they portray the very spirit that San Jancinto Day celebrates!
Aren’t these festivities held in a public place funded by public money? Is this public money not some how funneled to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and their  San Jancinto Day organizers by politicians?  I don’t want to seem petty but I would like to know!  Additionally, why are the festivities  being held a day early, on Hitler’s birthday, instead of the date in which it was declared a state holiday, April 21.
I fully support my friends and family in Texas who are ready to break free from this tyrannical government. I get it. I hope that the Texas Nationalist Movement is successful so other states may follow suit. Succeeding from the United States of America is the right thing for Texas to do.The loss of our sovereignty to move towards a “one world government” is not the way our founders envisioned America! Texas could be a beacon of hope for the rest of our country.
Don’t think Texas is tyrannical?  Ask parents of the  12-year-old girls who were forcefully vaccinated for HPV against their will and without parental permission how they feel. I couldn’t imagine what my mother  would have done if the school would have tried to give me a shot to vaccinate me for a sexually transmitted disease before I ever became sexually active!  When I attended Nolanville Elementary my teacher threatened to spank me  with a paddle for  losing my book .  I told my  mother I lost the book and that the teacher threatened to paddle my behind if I didn’t find it.  She went to the school and confronted the teacher and she told him if he ever talked to me that way again that she would beat him with a paddle herself.  Those were the days.
Texans fought and won the battle of the Texas Revolution becoming an independent Republic.  In 1845 it joined the United States as the 28th state. The state’s annexation set off a chain of events that caused the Mexican–American War in 1846.  In my opinion, denying  the Texas Nationalist Movement the opportunity to distribute their information goes against everything that the holiday stands for.  Independence is deeply ingrained in the character of the people of Texas and I hope that the  Texas Parks& Wildlife Department and their “festival organizers” will reconsider allowing the Texas Nationalist Movement to give their presentation.  I also hope that the organizers will allow Texas Nationalist Movement a booth at the San Jancinto Day festivities so that they may express the freedom that is being celebrated.

Lisa Kuzela files conflict of interest charges against Mayor Ron Corbett

PRESS RELEASE:

lisa1Lisa Kuzela files conflict of interest charges against Mayor Ron Corbett

On Monday, February 25, 2013, Lisa Kuzela submitted to the Iowa State Ethics Board claims of conflicts of interest that Mayor Ron Corbett has violated Iowa Code 68B.2A which prohibits outside employment and activities. Those charges have been forwarded to the Linn County Attorney’s office.

The pertinent subsections to the code are as follows:

According to:
Iowa Code 68B.2A – “Prohibited Outside Employment and Activities-Conflicts of interest:”
“Any person who serves or is employed by the state or a political subdivision of the state shall not engage in any of the following conduct:”
“Outside employment or an activity that involves the use of the state’s or the political subdivision’s time, time, facilities, equipment, and supplies …”

In addition, specifically regarding employment conflict…
“Outside employment or an activity that is subject to the official control, inspection, review, audit, or enforcement authority of the person, during the performance of the person’s duties of office or employment.”

Corbett was the Vice President of Human Resources at CRST. John Smith was President and CEO of CRST International, Inc. and is currently Chair. David Rusch is the current President and CEO of CRST. Corbett supposedly remains employed by CRST, although questions remain as to if he actually works there or simply receives a salary under a fictitious position.

Corbett has a personal interest through his official capacity of mayor which has benefitted John Smith and David Rusch at CRST which violates State Law.

The most recent actions he has taken in regards to the casino have prompted me to finally file an official complaint and request for an investigation.

My suspicion rose first when I learned who the investors were. They included John Smith and David Rusch of CRST.

Two weeks ago I learned about the Agreement between the Cedar Rapids Development Group (“investor” group) and the Linn County Gaming Association (nonprofit group) which states that if there is any debt incurred on the land or operations, then a “third party” will cover that debt. I knew what that meant. Again, the city taxpayers will be subsidizing another facility. But this time, it will be for Corbett’s employers.

Last week, I learned of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (see attached) that Corbett approved at the October 9, 2012 City Council meeting.

This Memorandum is basically a no-competition declaration stating that the City will exclusively support the Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC and the Linn County Gaming Association, Inc. They will not consider anyone else who wants to bid for the gaming license.

This created an environment in which there can’t be competition. A bid process would have been in the form of bidding a higher percentage of funds to go to the nonprofit who then allocates it to the community.

By doing so, Corbett not only dishonored the residents, costing them tens of millions, but he secured that those proceeds will stay in the hands of the investor group, of which Smith and Rusch are investors.

The MOU that Corbett supported therefore:
1) secured that this investor group, of which Smith and Rusch are members, Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC, and no one else, would be sole ownership of the casino, entertainment, gift shops, etc. proceeds – as stated in the Agreement;
2) secured that a lower percentage of proceeds be distributed into the community;
3) secured that this investor group will make millions more (that otherwise would’ve gone into the community).

Note that I don’t think that a bid process is required under law or regulations in this situation, however, through Corbett’s official actions, he has granted favor to Smith and Rusch of who Corbett is employed.

This MOU agenda issue was a critical one for Cedar Rapids, yet was not only not discussed at the council meeting; it was noticeably inconspicuously placed on the consent agenda. No council member pulled it off to discuss, and it was passed by the simple vote of passing the consent agenda.

The Resolution was signed by Mayor Corbett October 9, 2012. (See attached)

Extended information: The casino conflict of interest has many tentacles …

In April 2012, I, along with others, attended and spoke at a House Ways and Means Subcommittee regarding Senate File 2217 – a $600 million bill for “flood protection” in which Mayor Corbett strongly lobbied for. At that meeting, there were two lobbyists from CRST. At the time none of us could understand why they were there.

This bill, signed into law April 19, 2012, was so broadly worded that it allows any project to be funded under this bill, as long as part of the major project qualifies as “flood protection.” This includes a casino.

Senate File 2217, Section 4 – New Section 418.1 Definition #5 “Project”
“A project may consist of one or more phases of construction or reconstruction that are contracted for separately if the larger project, of which the project is a part, otherwise meets the requirements of this subsection.”

Although the bill states the funds would be granted to the “governmental entity,” this city knows how to get around that. Three LLCs (Courthouse II LLC, Courthouse II Tenant LLC, and Courthouse II Manager LLC) were created for the former Federal Courthouse / new City Hall, in which they used all public funds to rehabilitate. By doing this, not only did the taxpayers end up paying more, but it bypassed any bidding process that was required by law with these funds and prevented transparency.

There’s already an LLC formed for the casino – Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC. I predict they will do the same with the casino – providing even more funding to the “investor” group – all with our tax money!

Now that the casino project is being pushed and John Smith and David Rusch have been named as investors, I think I understand now why a trucking company located miles from the river was lobbying for a “flood protection” bill.

Currently, as I predicted, Corbett and Senator Rob Hogg are lobbying the Board (established under this bill) to have part of the casino project count as flood protection.

However, if this is granted by the Board then, according to the bill, the taxpayers, rather than the investors, can be paying for the construction of the casino project with the appearance that the investor group (LLC) is paying for it.

Sidebar: Each phase or subproject is capped at receiving $15 million through this law. In addition it requires a “local match.” However, the State received a waiver from HUD allowing the CDBG Disaster Assistance to count as a local match. Therefore, with this match, it allows Corbett to help fund up to $30 million per phase / subproject of the major casino project. Thereby, leaving the investor group, of which John Smith and David Rusch of CRST are investors, to invest very little, if any, toward the casino, obligating Local, State and Federal taxpayers to fund the construction of the casino.

Recently, it’s been published that Ron Corbett has historically opposed a local casino. I even heard him say so at a dinner during his campaign at the Islamic Center in Cedar Rapids. He said that the market is saturated and it doesn’t make sense to have another one here.

Now he suddenly supports a casino.

Of course this sudden change of attitude about such a major issue is usually explained away politically, but when all these facts are pieced together, questions can’t help but be raised as to why he is now using his elected position as mayor to push through the casino upon which Smith and Rusch are an investors.

Senator Rob Hogg doesn’t have the time to consider SF 276 – He would rather surrender himself to the mercy of the drones…

It’s only a one page bill, but apparently having Senator Hogg sit down to read it and mull it over is too much to ask.

You see, Hogg is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Without Senator Hogg scheduling a committee hearing on SF 276, our common sense drone regulations are dead in the water.

With political leaders like Sen. Hogg being too lazy to consider a one page bill, it’s no wonder our country is in such bad shape.

That type of “leadership” is completely unacceptable.

Living in a police state enforced by flying robots is not an option.

So here at Liberty Iowa, we are going to do everything in our power to persuade Senator Hogg on the dangers that drones pose to our liberty, privacy, and peace of mind.

Tackling the special interests and established politicians is not easy.

In fact, it is very expensive in time and money.

Harkin’s office noted that “biohazardous conditions within the facility” at the time of the FEMA inspection convinced the agency that the flood-damaged building could not be renovated.

Also this week, the City Council is expected to approve an agreement with the Cedar Rapids Community Schools, which will let the city use the school district’s existing modular classroom at Harrison Elementary School as a community resource center from June 15 through Aug. 14. The resource center will serve as a temporary neighborhood center to serve some of the functions that the Time Check Recreation Center did.

Police Grasping Straws in California – Have they gone too Far?

lacop-articleInlineThe police is out in full force in southern California. Law enforcement is on a massive manhunt for one of their own. It should be clear to the public by now that they are not safe.  Police have shot up a truck thinking it belonged to Christopher Dorner injuring two women. http://fox4kc.com/2013/02/08/la-police-shoot-at-wrong-suspect-vehicle-injure-two-women/  Two cops were shot in Riverside, California and police there have reason to believe it was Dorner.

It almost seems inconceivable that this one rouge police officer would be able to use up so many resources. How far will a corrupt police department go to protect their own hides?
In all reality Christopher Dorner doesn’t have to clear his name. I think that people are finding out first hand the wrath of the LAPD and other police who feel threatened by the rouge police officer.

“The Los Angeles Police Department will reopen its investigation into the 2007 episode that led to the firing of Christopher J. Dorner, the former police officer who is wanted in three killings, department officials said Saturday night.” The department may have reopened the case but now his name will be tarnished and he will be known as a murderer. Click here for the whole story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/10/us/los-angeles-police-to-reopen-dorner-case.html?smid=fb-share  Though the case will be re-opened is it too little too late?
How does this pertain to other communities in the United States?  We have a rare opportunity to use this situation to our advantage to stop anything else like this from happening.  We could start with opening and re-opening cases that should be investigated.  How about listening to people before they feel forced to go to these kinds of extremes to “clear their name”? To protect the mentally ill from police brutality.

Dorner tried doing things the right way.  He even took his case to court in attempt to clear his name and lost. I don’t condone what Mr. Dorner is doing but I understand why he’s doing it.  Sadly. In the manifesto he said that this could stop if they did what he asked them to do.  Finding this guy will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  If he isn’t somewhere dead it sounds like there are plenty of people who would hide him.  The cops are making themselves look bad I mean shooting up two ladies, harassing a lady in the desert by helicopter, searching every single car, going house to house.  The resources they’re using are insane.  I hope that this “re-opening” of this case stops the madness. Below is the case to be re-opened.  Let’s hope that these deaths aren’t in vain and real changes will occur across the nation.

DORNER v. LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT

Casino or CasiNO

Do you gamble?  Do you drive out-of-town to gamble?  Would you continue to drive out of town to gamble if there was a casino in your hometown? On March 5, 2013 Linn County voters will be deciding just that in a special election.  I circled Cedar Rapids in red on the map of the casinos in Iowa below for people to see how saturated Eastern Iowa already is with casinos.  casino mapWhat would happen if the people of Linn County vote in favor of a casino?  Other casinos worry they could go bankrupt. Make no mistake the casinos in other communities want to keep your business!

Already this casino is generating jobs but not from the side you’d expect. While  a commercial airs over and over on the television advertising jobs the opposition is taking applications and searching for volunteers.  One of their arguments was that this won’t be a county owned casino and that the private investors and their non-profit are the ones calling the shots. When I questioned the “vote no” office workers about who was funding the “no vote” initiative  at their office yesterday they told me that some of the money was invested by outside casinos.  Here is their argument in a flier that I obtained from their office at 1134 9th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403  (parking in the rear). vote no The investors  are the  same old people who always find ways to make a quick buck or profit from public money.  Where will the money from Cedar Rapids casino go if people vote in favor of it? I obtained this information from the Vote Yes Linn County website: http://voteyeslinncounty.com/community-improvement

invest

Will this election mirror the last special election? Many of the people who signed the petition to extend the Local Option Sales Tax didn’t even vote in the election. Like other special elections that have taken place in Linn County over the last two years it boils down to trust.

Playing the same commercial  over and over on TV will wear on the public.  Where is the “vote yes” office located?  Where is the public face for the vote yes group and exactly who are they going to reach out to in the community for grassroots support? The labor unions were in support of the Local Option Sales Tax measure that failed not once but twice!

Where are the young local enthusiastic people who worked for the  “vote yes” campaign back in 2003 when this issue was on the ballot?  Those people were energized and were able to get people out to vote in favor of the casino because they were planning to work there when/if it opened. Would a casino improve Cedar Rapids?  Maybe. Would a casino with this set of investors be the wisest decision?  Probably not.

The Fiscal Cliff and the Rising Cost of Milk

079 Capitol Hill United States Congress 1993

ABC News has been going on and on about  the so-called “fiscal cliff” we’re about to go over,  but many of us already know that we’ve done gone over that cliff and we’re about to hit rock bottom.
“It may be too late for a deal” says ABC News.  “Doubling the price of milk may push us over the ‘dairy cliff’” they claim.
An average gallon of milk cost about $3.50 to $3.99 and  if lawmakers can’t come up with a solution by January 1, 2013 we may have to pay twice that because the government will no longer give dairy farmers subsidies which will in turn force farmers to raise the price of milk!
Maybe the government should stop paying farmers to not to farm their land
If these so-called “leaders” cannot come up with a solution or at least a reasonable compromise by the “deadline” then they should all lose their pay for being incompetent!
In fact, we should start fixing our economy by cutting lawmakers pay first!  They are all overpaid and none of them deserve the money they’re receiving.   Lawmakers have been playing these political games that affect each and every one of our lives for far too long and we pay them way too much money to do it!  If we took away the lawmakers’ pay/benefits then maybe American’s wouldn’t have to pay so much more in taxes and perhaps we can put an end to these abusive threats year after year.
Competent lawmakers would demand that the spending for these unconstitutional wars end before cutting into social programs that help people in the United States.   We cannot afford the empire building that the United States has been involved in for more than ten years  and most of us are sick of paying for these unconstitutional wars.
I am sick and tired of hearing lawmakers call  Social Security an entitlement program when it is our money! It is a tax that we have literally been forced to pay year after year without any kind of representation!  This money is taken from us and then spent by our governmentDid you know that Social Security money is used to pay for services like foster care?
Who are these lawmakers hurting the most by playing their partisan games?  The poor and middle class– the people  who are already hurting! They are hurting seniors who worked their entire lives paying into a program that is supposed to help them when they got too old to work!
It’s time for our lawmakers to get real when it comes to taking our money.  Instead of cutting social programs that help  people here in the states it is time lawmakers cutting the spending for the unconstitutional wars our country is involved in and their own pay because they have proven that they are incompetent!

JUST SAY NO TO REGURGITATING POLITICIANS IN IOWA

Vote 2014: Culver Eyeing Rematch with Branstad

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Ready for a rematch? Former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver is considering another run for the state’s top office, challenging Republican Gov. Terry Branstad in 2014. “I’m certainly keeping my options open,” the one-term Democrat said recently.  Some Iowa Republicans were quick to express doubt the former high school teacher will run in 2014, but Branstad spokesman Tim Albrecht said the possibility is one “we take very seriously.”
Culver, 46, believes he had a great record of accomplishment from 2007-11 and is receiving encouragement to run again.  “Quite a bit, actually,” said Culver, who now leads The Culver Group that provides strategic consulting to public and private sector entities, primarily on renewable energy issues.
“At the supermarket, people come up to me and tell me I should run again,” he said. “I’m encouraged by the level of support from Democrats, generally.” He’ll begin actively exploring a 2014 run in the next few months, Culver said. “I’m not going to rush it but I’ll continue to have conversations with supporters and friends,” he said. Candidates have until March 14, 2014, to put their names on the primary election ballot.  Longtime GOP activist and Branstad associate Doug Gross calls a rematch unlikely.  “Branstad would win with a bigger margin,” the Des Moines attorney said. “Iowans would just compare the state of the state with Culver and then Branstad. Case closed.”  “Gov. Culver’s years of deficit spending and higher unemployment versus Gov. Branstad’s consistent balancing of Iowa’s budget, coupled with Iowa’s lowest unemployment rate in four years, is a rigorous debate that would give Iowans a clear choice,” Albrecht said.  It would be a clear choice, said Culver, who believes he had a great record to run on in 2010, but was hurt by the national economy.  “We got through some difficult times,” he said. That includes state assistance to Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Coralville and many other Eastern Iowa communities damaged by flooding in 2008.”

He’ll remind Iowans that during the Culver administration the minimum wage was increased, smoking was banned in nearly all workplaces, preschool opportunities were expanded and more children received health care coverage. And former Gov. Tom Vilsack and his wife Christie Vilsack, who was an unsuccessful congressional candidate this year, also are mentioned as possible candidates.  Culver’s not afraid of mixing it up with other Democrats in a primary. Culver won primaries when he ran for his first of two terms as Secretary of State and to get the party’s nomination for governor.  “As long as I work hard and take my message to the people I can be successful,” Culver said.  Neither is he concerned that one unsuccessful race will disqualify him in the minds of Iowa Democratic voters.
“No one has had that conversation with me,” he said.

Branstad open to running for re-election

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad suggested he was open to running for re-election in 2014 at his birthday fundraiser on Saturday.  Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/19/branstad-open-to-running-for-re-election/#ixzz2GAeyoOzb

Gov’s Branstad & Brownback want to sell Iowa assets to China.

my 2 centsFirst of all, I heard Culver was considering a run and I had nightmares all night about it! Secondly, my aunt, a lifelong democrat, voted for Branstad over Culver, and she MET Culver!!  He could not beat  Branstad  in a rematch! As much as people dislike Branstad they dislike Culver even more! Finally, do you really want to keep a man who is selling Iowa’s assets to China?  How about neither of them run! They’ve had their chance to make things right in Iowa but neither one of them 3854_pphave! It is time for Iowa to find a new governor.  Someone who didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in their mouth in Washington D.C..  Someone who won’t let Iowan’s youth to go to jail for things that their own child has been caught doing (marijuana).  Terry Branstad has a vendetta against felons, even though his own son,  should be a felon himself after killing a couple while driving.  Both parties need to find new candidates!  I nominate Greg Hughes! Greg Hughes understands the problems we have in the States Capitol and we have a lot of them! Our Supreme Court is despicable! Greg Hughes will put people before politics, profit, and pollution, unlike Culver and Branstad!

Doomsday Blizzard 2012

Snapshot - 1Cedar Rapids, Iowa- I was pretty excited to get a package in the mail today. It was a dash camera, a DiGiJet Infrared Night Vision HD DVR – a gift from my friend Jeff.  I played with it for about 45 minutes before taking it out for a test run.  I have it plugged in now and am hoping to catch the whole blizzard on film overnight since that’s when it’s supposed to really start blowing the snow around! I will only catch the whole blizzard if the electricity stays on and the video turns out  I will speed it up and share a time lapsed doomsday blizzard video in the morning.  The video will be filmed from the West Bank of Cedar Rapids pointing towards Quaker Oats/Pepsi Co.

I realize most of these videos are dark but hey, it’s dark outside! :)

2 am

This post will be updated as the storm rolls in!

I had to drive in the blizzard to pick my son up last night. Jim Pate rode along and we discussed past close calls and road conditions.

I am working on a time-lapsed video from last night into the early hours of the morning that I will be posting.

The New Police Chief Only Came to Cedar Rapids to RETIRE

A re-run of “To The Point” is playing and the new Police Chief was on today.  To the Point with Beth Malicki is a 30 minute weekly program that brings community leaders together to discuss what is happening in Eastern Iowa and what needs to happen to make it a better place to live, work, and play.

Today’s episode re-aired the new police chief we just hired from Maryland.  Our last chief was hired out of Florida after being offered the Chief of Police position in his home state.  It’s not as if we didn’t have a great candidate locally named Steve O’Konek, here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa  but because he was local he was overlooked. Some firm said another guy from out of state was better for the job.

This is an email I sent to Jeff Pomeranz, the City Manager, asking why Steve wasn’t considered.  Yes, this email was written in September, but I am clearly still salty about this issue and I am fed up with all the violence including police violence.

Ajai:

Thanks for the question.  I like and respect Steve as well.  It was my job to select the best person for the job.  That does not take away from the qualifications of the local candidate.  I like and believe in  appointing local when possible.  An example of this is Mark English, our relatively new Fire Chief.

I spent a tremendous amount of effort on this search.  We hired one of the best search firms in the country to help.  The Civil Service Commission did its part.  Chief German was ranked #1 by that body.  We had numerous employees, citizens and outside agencies participate in the process.  I followed up with site visits.  Others joined me on the visits, including a police officer. Significant background checks  were also completed.

My job and goal was to recommend the best and strongest candidate, recognizing our current environment and needs.  While I realize that you feel differently about the selection,  I certainly respect your opinion.  This was not an easy choice for me.

I believe you will find Chief German a very open, honest and capable choice.

Jeff
Who is  Wayne Jerman? http://connectedcommunities.us/showthread.php?t=22733112808 Jerman

“I will not let you down“: http://thegazette.com/2012/10/29/i-will-not-let-you-down-new-cedar-rapids-police-chief-says/

Wayne Jerman “irate” over shootings in Cedar Rapids area:

On Wayne Jerman’s watch a citizen was shot to death by POLICE!

What if the Montgomery County Maryland Police Department offered to hire Mr. Jerman as their Police Chief , like the last Police Chief we hired from Florida?  Would he go like our last Police Chief?   Is there a contract between the CRPD and Mr. Jerman?  Who does he have in Cedar Rapids to keep him here?  Does he have any children or grandchildren who reside in Iowa?

steveHere is the guy we should have hired! Steve O”Konek.  Yes, I am still salty about the decision.  I don’t think Jerman was the best choice for this position! I am not saying he isn’t a good cop or that he won’t do a satisfactory job but I know Steve personally and I think that he was the right man for the job! Mr. Jerman knows nothing about our community and is already “irate” over the shootings that have taken place.  Steve O’Konek has strong ties within the community and was one of three Cedar Rapids police captains who helped run the Police Department while the City looked for a new Police Chief to replace Greg Graham, who left in January, after being offered a police chief position in his home state of Florida!

Armed Robbery at Casey’s General Store in Cedar Rapids

Around 1:20 a.m. at the Casey’s General Store, 1201 First Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids. Aman wearing dark clothing and a black ski-mask entered the store, showed a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk, officer said early this morning.

He then ran away with an unknown amount of money.Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call police at (319) 286-5491. Tips can also be left anonymously by calling Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463).

We have got to get a grip on the crime taking place in this city!

Westdale Mall Sale in Cedar Rapids Sets up Partial Demolition

Byers, a Realtor at Gibbs Lamb Drown Commercial in Cedar Rapids and developer of the successful Marketplace on 1st retail center across First Avenue East from Lindale Mall, cautioned that a few details need to be worked out before his investor group closes on the property purchase.

However, Frew, president/CEO of Frew Development Group and the project manager of the city’s downtown convention complex and hotel projects, said Friday that he and his group have signed the land lease deal with Byers, adding, “Our company is certainly expecting the project to happen.”

“I think it’s all going to come together,” Frew continued. “At long last we’re in a position to move this project forward.”

Frew, who is based in Denver, Colo., came close to buying the mall earlier this year before last-minute problems over existing tenant leases caused him to set his purchase offer aside.

Frew said the current redevelopment plan is the same as the earlier one. That is, to create a “multiuse destination” around the mall’s anchor stores with a development of apartments, condominiums, retail stores, offices, restaurants, a park and a hotel.

The site, he said, will come to be known as Westdale, not Westdale Mall, and he said it will not be unlike the transformation that turned Southglenn Mall in the Denver area into The Streets at SouthGlenn.

“It will be a city within a city, a place where people shop, eat, work, play and sleep,” Frew said

Interesting idea, wonder where they came up with it.

Ryan Lunza named Connecticut Child Killer turns into a Social Media Nightmare & an Attack on Gun Rights

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones, especially the little ones. What a sad and terrible tragedy.

ABC News reported this incident for hours. At first, they reported the shooter was 24-year-old Ryan Lunza. They said that “he was the new face of mental health”. Social media networks went crazy targeting Ryan. Then Ryan made a post that shocked thousands. Now, ABC News “can’t be clear on who the shooter is” now they report it was “20-year-old Adam Lunza”.

Nonetheless, they claim that no matter which brother is was the “relationship was still the same”. I have a problem with this kind of reporting because these two men are not the same people. There didn’t seem to be a social profile of Adam that I could find. I couldn’t imagine what Ryan is going through. He just lost his family and his brother is the most hated man in America now. I looked at his profile on Facebook before he took it down and I didn’t see anything that would show he was a violent person. His profile and little conversation seemed to revolve around art. Now, Ryan is going to be interrogated by the police because there is another crime scene at his parents home.

New information found: Ryan Lanza’s ID apparently was taken by his brother, the suspected Connecticut gunman Now the news is reporting that authorities don’t believe Ryan was involved. What a way to find out your whole family is dead.
The politicians and media didn’t take long to make the tragedy about them and more gun control. President Obama got on air to speak about the situation. He looked like he was crying.

“We are going to have to come together to take action on this” said Obama

Then I came across this story: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/121214/sandy-hook-elementary-school-shooting-connecticu

Guns obtained legally

CBS News reported that preliminary information suggested that Adam Lanza, the shooting suspect who killed himself in the school, obtained the guns he used in the shooting legally.

A law enforcement official told CBS News that the guns found at the scene were a Sig Sauer, a Glock 9 and a Bushmaster rifle.
Meanwhile, in Michigan, the Senate and House have passed a bill that would allow the carrying of concealed weapons in areas including schools, churches, day cares and stadiums.
For more on that, read here.

I am a parent. I have an elementary aged child who is in school right now. I don’t know if I trust other people’s judgement to keep my child or anyone’s children safe at this point! What do you think of this situation? Do you have children or grandchildren that attend public schools? Are you worried about something like this happening in your community? What can we do about these mass shootings that won’t infringe on our Second Amendment right to bear arms? Should we allow concealed weapons in our schools and churches like they do in Michigan? Michigan approves concealed weapons in schools, churches

The public school system has taken it upon themselves to teach our children about sex and drugs but teach them nothing about gun safety or what to do if someone comes into their school with a gun. When will our teachers be given the training they need to keep themselves and their classrooms safe?

Cedar Rapids Headlines 12/13/12

DCI Completes Investigation into Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Cedar Rapids

“Desirae A. Daniel, 27, was shot by police on the morning of Dec. 4 following a police chase and died at a hospital a short time later. According to police, Daniel was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car in the 200 block of 27th Street NW after the chase when she pulled a gun as officers were approaching the car. Police said a handgun was later recovered from the car.”

The State Police have finished their investigation but they aren’t going to share any details. County Attorney Jerry Vandersanden is reviewing the case but doesn’t want to rush it. “Something like this, you don’t want to rush,” Vander Sanden said. For those of us who know how things work in Cedar Rapids this is a open and shut case that will find these police officers heroes in the end.

Attempted Abduction of Teenage Girl Reported in Cedar Rapids

According to police, a 17-year-old girl was walking in the 500 block of 12th Avenue SE around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday when she noticed a man in a gray car looking at her. The man had his window rolled down and was yelling at her to come over to talk to him, but she ignored him.

The girl told police the man got out of the car and chased her for a short distance, before he gave up and returned to his car. The girl, who was not hurt, had never seen the man before, police said.

Police said the girl and her mother went back to Metro High School, where she is a student, to report the incident before calling the police later in the afternoon.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 30s wearing blue jeans and a coat. No arrests had been made by Thursday morning.

Kudos to the teenager who ran from this stranger! We’ve had enough heartache this year! I hope the police find this person!

Linn County’s “15-In-5″ Progress Slowed By Flood, Recession

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Think back seven years.

The 2005 “15 in 5″ Project:

1. Jobs Goal – We should establish a goal to retain, expand, and attract jobs that pay living wages and health benefits, such as a net addition of 1,000 manufacturing and food processing jobs over five years.

2. Entrepreneurial Development Fund – We should establish a local $1 million-plus Entrepreneurial Development Fund to help promising new businesses that have a quality business plan with small grants of up to $20,000.

3. Business Incubator – In partnership with the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and Kirkwood Community College, we should create a business incubator to provide a physical space for new businesses and non-profits using university research and technology or other public business assistance.

4. Early Childhood Education – We should support the Birth to Five Initiative led by Linn County Community Empowerment to end the current waiting lists and to make low-cost, quality child care and preschool available to all families, especially those families with incomes less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

5. After-School Programs – To improve community safety and education, we should provide after-school programs – such as the “After School Academic Challenge and Enrichment Program” at Polk Elementary School – for every student who needs them, especially in our five core neighborhoods (Mound View, Wellington Heights, Oakhill Jackson, Taylor Area, and Northwest Area).

6. Summer-School Opportunities – In partnership with area businesses, retirees, and colleges (e.g., Kirkwood, Mt. Mercy, and Coe), we should make summer-school remedial and enrichment programs available in reading, math, science, computers, foreign language, business, and vocational education.

7. Student Community Service Goal – In partnership with area nonprofits and the Workplace Learning Connection, we should establish a goal that 50% or more of our high school students will participate in regular community service.

8. 211 First Call For Help – We should maintain and improve the 211 First Call For Help program, and the agencies that provide assistance through that program, to meet the basic needs of children, seniors, and others in need.

9. Housing Improvements – We should identify and reduce by 50% or more the number of vacant and dilapidated houses in the five core neighborhoods (Mound View, Wellington Heights, Oakhill Jackson, Taylor Area, and Northwest Area).

10. Energy Conservation And Efficiency – We should establish a goal of reducing energy use per capita by 10% over 5 years, develop measures to monitor progress toward this goal, and encourage conservation and efficiency to achieve the goal.

11. Highway 30 To Clinton And Ames – We should advocate a plan to expand Highway 30 to four lanes from Clinton to Ames for completion by 2015.

12. Light Rail Transit To Iowa City – Given the potential for congestion on Interstate-380 and rising gasoline prices, we should develop and begin implementing a plan to establish a light rail line from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City by 2015.

13. Joint Land Use Plan And Trust Fund For The Technology Corridor – We should develop a joint land use plan and environmental and recreation trust fund for Linn and Johnson Counties to identify, protect, and improve existing and future park land, recreational facilities, natural areas, agricultural land, and open space.

14. Recreational Trail For Cedar Rapids, Iowa City & Amana – We should complete a recreational bicycle trail to connect Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Amana.

15. Cedar Bend Project – We should complete the Cedar Bend project, including recreational use of the Cedar Bend Lake, extension of the Sac and Fox Trail to the Cedar River Trail, construction of a new Witwer Senior Center to house senior organizations and activities, construction of a new market space, and conversion of the existing landfill to public open space.

What do you think of the goals?

Gas Explosion Sissonville, West Virginia Secondary Explosion Possible

Sargent Michael Baylous, State Police, (recorded in the video below) said “Columbia Gas is in the process of shutting down a line that exploded this afternoon. Sargent Baylous got a call at around 1:00 pm this afternoon about a gas explosion. “This is a very delicate process that has to be done the right way or there could be another explosion” said Sargent Baylous, “anyone in the area should try to evacuate “just in case” he warned.

Homes in Sissonville, West Virginia have been leveled and all lanes of Interstate 77 have been shut down.

Two people dressed in black carjacked and robbed a 21 year old woman in an apartment parking lot at 911 Old Marion Road NE Saturday December 9, 2012. The robbers demanded the woman’s keys and when she refused they assaulted her and took her car and credit cards. She was taken to St. Lukes where she was treated for a cut on her ear.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call police at (319) 286-5491. Tips can also be left anonymously by calling Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME (272-7463).
This would be frightening! I hope the perpetrators are caught!

Man Stole Pickup, Shot At Owner Before Police Chase, Police Say

Paul D. Hoff, 33, of 7100 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, was one of three people arrested Friday afternoon after a short police chase that ended when the stolen pickup crashed into a tree in an alley in southwest Cedar Rapids. No one was injured in the incident.
According to a criminal complaint, Hoff was driving the white pickup around 3:30 p.m. Friday when the owner, Joseph McDaniel, spotted it near the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Edgewood Road NW. The Ford F-150 had been stolen from McDaniel’s residence in Hiawatha on Nov. 21. Authorities said McDaniel pulled up alongside the pickup, and Hoff responded by firing at least one gunshot at the vehicle McDaniel was in.
Authorities recovered a .380-caliber handgun and a sawed-off shotgun from the pickup, according to court documents.
Hoff has been charged with first-degree theft, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless driving, interference with official acts and driving with a suspended license.
The others who were in the pickup, identified as Holly L. Levelle, 37, and Jeremy L. McAtee, 34, both of Palo, also were arrested for running from police. Levelle also had a warrant out for her arrest for a probation violation, police said.

God help us all.

Future Holds Budget Cuts for Cedar Rapids School District

“We have to find authorized revenues or we have to reduce expenses, or a combination of those two things,” said Executive Director of Business Services Steve Graham as he presented preliminary budget assumptions for fiscal year 2014.
In Benson’s estimation, it’s time for the board to be proactive.
“We have bought all the time that we can reasonably buy and I don’t think that a rational person can look at Des Moines and think that we’re going to be saved by some infusion of new revenue,” he said.
Graham said it is “premature” to discuss where those potential cuts will come from in the district’s budget.
“We have not yet begun the process of looking at our overall programming,” he said.
State law mandates that districts certify their final fiscal 2014 budgets by April 15, 2013.

Can you believe this? It wasn’t enough to close schools now they want to cut programs! I think the next cuts should come from the top.

City Gives Flood Property Developer Deadline

Developer Baron Stark stepped in during the summer of 2011 with a plan to rescue the flood-damaged commercial building at 1501/1507 C St. SW in Czech Village and the flood-damaged former A & W Family Restaurant at 1126 and 1132 Ellis Blvd. NW from the wrecking ball.
However, the city’s Community Development Department has informed the City Council’s Development Committee that Stark’s company, Stark Real Estate Holdings Inc., is now in default of his development agreements with the city on the two properties for two reasonslack of project funding and the inability to start construction work as specified in the agreements.
In a report to the council committee, Caleb Mason, redevelopment analyst in the Community Development Department states that neither lending institution involved in the two Stark projects has provided a letter to the city committing funding for the projects. However, the lenders are continuing to work with Stark on the properties, Mason says.
The Community Development Department is recommending that the council committee and then the full City Council grant Stark a time extension on the two projects.
Meantime, The iconic A*W on Ellis Boulevard NW sits empty since the 2008 flood. There is strong community support for the A&W but bureaucracy has gotten in the way of progress. I wonder who the “lenders” are?

Ron Paul Leaves the Rə̲̅٨̲̅٥̲̅٦̲̅]ution with many Questions

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/clip/4161883

Ron Paul’s “Farewell Speech” can be read in full here: http://www.campaignforliberty.org/national-blog/transcript-of-farewell-address/

As usual Ron Paul was brutally honest and leaves us with more questions than answers as he retires from Congress.

Questions from Ron Paul:

“Excessive government has created such a mess it prompts many questions”:

Why are sick people who use medical marijuana put in prison?

Why does the federal government restrict the drinking of raw milk?

Why can’t Americans manufacturer rope and other products from hemp?

Why are Americans not allowed to use gold and silver as legal tender as mandated by the Constitution?

Why is Germany concerned enough to consider repatriating their gold held by the FED for her in New York? Is it that the trust in the U.S. and dollar supremacy beginning to wane?

Why do our political leaders believe it’s unnecessary to thoroughly audit our own gold?

Why can’t Americans decide which type of light bulbs they can buy?

Why is the TSA permitted to abuse the rights of any American traveling by air?

Why should there be mandatory sentences—even up to life for crimes without victims—as our drug laws require?

Why have we allowed the federal government to regulate commodes in our homes?

Why is it political suicide for anyone to criticize AIPAC ?

Why haven’t we given up on the drug war since it’s an obvious failure and violates the people’s rights? Has nobody noticed that the authorities can’t even keep drugs out of the prisons? How can making our entire society a prison solve the problem?

Why do we sacrifice so much getting needlessly involved in border disputes and civil strife around the world and ignore the root cause of the most deadly border in the world-the one between Mexico and the US?

Why does Congress willingly give up its prerogatives to the Executive Branch?

Why does changing the party in power never change policy? Could it be that the views of both parties are essentially the same?

Why did the big banks, the large corporations, and foreign banks and foreign central banks get bailed out in 2008 and the middle class lost their jobs and their homes?

Why do so many in the government and the federal officials believe that creating money out of thin air creates wealth?

Why do so many accept the deeply flawed principle that government bureaucrats and politicians can protect us from ourselves without totally destroying the principle of liberty?

Why can’t people understand that war always destroys wealth and liberty?

Why is there so little concern for the Executive Order that gives the President authority to establish a “kill list,” including American citizens, of those targeted for assassination?

Why is patriotism thought to be blind loyalty to the government and the politicians who run it, rather than loyalty to the principles of liberty and support for the people? Real patriotism is a willingness to challenge the government when it’s wrong.

Why is it is claimed that if people won’t or can’t take care of their own needs, that people in government can do it for them?

Why did we ever give the government a safe haven for initiating violence against the people?

Why do some members defend free markets, but not civil liberties?

Why do some members defend civil liberties but not free markets? Aren’t they the same?

Why don’t more defend both economic liberty and personal liberty?

Why are there not more individuals who seek to intellectually influence others to bring about positive changes than those who seek power to force others to obey their commands?

Why does the use of religion to support a social gospel and preemptive wars, both of which requires authoritarians to use violence, or the threat of violence, go unchallenged? Aggression and forced redistribution of wealth has nothing to do with the teachings of the world great religions.

Why do we allow the government and the Federal Reserve to disseminate false information dealing with both economic and foreign policy?

Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority?

Why should anyone be surprised that Congress has no credibility, since there’s such a disconnect between what politicians say and what they do?

Is there any explanation for all the deception, the unhappiness, the fear of the future, the loss of confidence in our leaders, the distrust, the anger and frustration? Yes there is, and there’s a way to reverse these attitudes. The negative perceptions are logical and a consequence of bad policies bringing about our problems. Identification of the problems and recognizing the cause allow the proper changes to come easy.

Gazette Visits with Greg Hughes but not because they Called!

I am kind of offended that the media is literally ignoring our local candidate for congress. While some outsider gets prime time coverage for being “interesting”. Really? How is Greg Hughes NOT INTERESTING? Does him making it on the Daily Paul as the ONLY liberty candidate in Iowa running for Congress count for anything? How about the fact that he is the chairman of the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee to the Iowa Supreme Court? Or how about the fact that he is the only viable candidate for congress who isn’t a lawyer!

Why does the media ignore Mr. Hughes? Well they ignore him based on a Governor race (from all four districts and all 99 counties) where he only got 3600 votes. I think that’s pretty good considering he got no real media coverage from the mainstream. Then Mr. Lynch from the Gazette mentioned polls- what polls? How are people supposed to make an informed decision when the media won’t cover them? It’s no wonder people from out of state are running for office! Would the media even know if someone from the Lange campaign didn’t point it out?

Check it out yourself I got it on video!

Question Everything!

Letter to Editor on Gary Johnson and Greg Hughes – to Cedar Rapids Gazette

Seems to me that the only press third-party candidates can get in the mainstream media is negative. That’s too bad. I would like to know how the Gazette and Rod Boshart came up with the conclusion that Iowan’s aren’t interested in third-party candidates! Why is the comment section closed on the “Third party isn’t charm for Iowa voters” story? Why isn’t there a poll to see where Iowan’s really stand? If Iowan’s aren’t interested in Gary Johnson then why are his yard signs popping up all over town?
If Gary Johnson isn’t a “threat” to anyone then why did republicans across the country sue to keep him off the ballot? If our votes for Gary Johnson went to Mitt Romney, or Obama, then why bother with any law suit at all!
Not one word has been uttered about the Independent candidate for Congress, former Independent candidate for Governor, Greg Hughes. Greg Hughes is a factory worker who chairs the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court who has been a family advocate for many years. Greg Hughes is the only candidate for congress talking about issues that are important to the Iowan’s I know that have been impacted by the court system. I am tired of the attack ads between the two attorneys constantly being aired on television I want to hear about Greg Hughes and what direction he would take District 1 if he were elected for Congress.

RE: “Third party isn’t charm for Iowa voters” says Gazette and Rod Boshart

Seems to me that the only press third-party candidates can get in the mainstream media is negative. That’s too bad. I would like to know how the Gazette and Rod Boshart came up with the conclusion that Iowan’s aren’t interested in third-party candidates? Is the writer only asking party players? Why is the comment section closed on the “Third party isn’t charm for Iowa voters” story? Why isn’t there a poll available? Are both parties worried about their status? Where do Iowan’s really stand?

“Two is company and three generally is a crowd when it comes to presidential politics in Iowa” I would like to know how the Gazette and Rod Boshart decided that third-party candidates didn’t matter in this election. Who did they ask? I haven’t seen any third-party candidates in the polls! I haven’t seen any third-party candidates in any debates or in the news!

““If ever there was going to be a year when you’d think you would have a credible third-party candidate, it would have been this year because the political system, particularly at the federal level, seems so dysfunctional, yet we have not had that,” said Des Moines attorney Doug Gross, a 2002 gubernatorial candidate in Iowa who is active in Republican politics.””

My question is if Gary Johnson wasn’t a legitimate candidate then why did members of the Republican Party file a law suit to try to keep him off the ballot? Something isn’t adding up here! Gary Johnson is not only a legitimate candidate he is also a qualified candidate who appeared as such in the presidential primary debates!

Who is Gary Johnson?

This election has been made into a three ringed circus in the State of Iowa by the GOP and now we want our third-party candidate included in the news media and the national debates. “It’s not the fault of Iowan’s that the GOP broke the media’s trust during the caucus“. If people are unhappy with the results then they need to get involved!

Even though the majority of delegates sent to Tampa from Iowa were there to represent Ron Paul our own Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds wouldn’t mention his name at all during the Republican National Convention that aired live on CNN. Instead of letting the public hear from Ron Paul, Clint Eastwood was given an empty chair to speak to. The two-party system is broke and voting for either party isn’t going to fix it!

Thankfully, there are third-party candidates suing for the right to air time.

I would like to know how the Gazette and Rod Boshart came up with the conclusion that Iowan’s aren’t interested in third party candidates during this election cycle or any other election for that matter! According to the Secretary of State as of September 2012 active Republicans total: 620868, the active Democrats total: 602636, and the active No Party voters total: 666279. Have the active No Party voters been polled? Is the Gazette and the two-party system presuming that the No Party voters will go with one or the other? With all the social media technology there is no way that everyone will be convinced that the two-party system is the only way to go.

If the public were informed about these third parties there would no doubt be an increase in interest!

I have carefully vetted the candidates for congress during this election and I will be supporting Greg Hughes. No one has ever heard of him because the media doesn’t cover third-party candidates. If they give one third-party candidate any air time they have to give it to the rest of the third-party candidates. I would rather hear from all the candidates than hear the same three ads air over and over and over.

This media problem isn’t limited to presidential elections. Nope, this happens in every election. Not one word has been uttered about the Independent candidate for Congress, former candidate for Governor, Greg Hughes. is a factory worker who chairs the Iowa Child Support Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court that has been a family advocate for many years. Greg Hughes is the only candidate for congress talking about issues that are important to the Iowan’s I know. The people I’ve talked to are tired of attack ads between the two attorneys and their PACS that are constantly being aired on television. I want to hear about Greg Hughes and what direction he would take District 1 if he were elected to Congress.

Who is Greg Hughes?

I was one of the Ron Paul delegates who went all the way through the process up to the state level. I am not interested in either establishment candidate and now I am working tirelessly to get the word out about our alternatives. Yes, we have alternatives. A vote for these alternatives is a vote against the two-party trap.

David v Goliath in Iowa’s First Congressional District

The choices we’ve been given by the two-party system have left us very little choice in the November election! Both of our congressional candidates are lawyers. If the only place you get information from is the television you’re really missing out on some potentially good candidates that could help us turn this country around! Why aren’t all the candidates going to be presented to us in the debates?

The two attorneys vying for our votes are busy spending their money to get you to vote for them in the 2012 election by airing attack ads against each other. Wouldn’t their money be better spent on telling us what they will do instead of telling us what the other one will do or has done wrong? Attack ads on television are expensive and annoying but with this money and their advertisements they have the ability to create a illusion that there is only two candidates in this race. I’ve heard enough attack ads between Romney and Obama! Lange and Braley just added to it!

Who is Greg Hughes and what does he believe in? Greg Hughes is a factory worker who spends his free time helping people who get caught up in the family court system. He believes in hard work, strong families, and fiscal responsibility. Greg Hughes has run a Tae Kwon Do school and has helped people through a volunteer pro-se clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Greg Hughes helps people help themselves.

Our children and grandchildren cannot afford the perpetual debt that these politically savvy lawyers have gotten us into. “One of the things I think that bothers me the most is the destruction of the family unit.” says Hughes. “For example, a grandmother was denied custody of her grand-daughter. Why? Because she was “low-income”. “Since when was that ever a reason to take away a families rights?” “Meantime the courts give abused children to strangers everyday through the foster care system.” More stories about Iowa families are available on this webpage: http://www.usajudicialreform.com/ for more stories.

Iowa families have been through hell over the last twenty years. My best friend has had her children removed and returned three times by the Department of Human Services! Why? Because some social workers (who didn’t even have children of their own) decided that it would be in the “best interest of the children”. Family courts removed my best friends children from their mother and put them with strangers! One of her daughters was only five years old when the family courts placed her in a foster home. While she was in a house of strangers she was sexually abused! Instead of questioning the foster home the police and DHS went after family her members! DHS and the family courts ended up putting this little girl in a “sex offender treatment facility” when she was FIVE YEARS OLD. YES, AFTER SHE WAS ABUSED IN A FOSTER HOME! What kind of agency puts a five-year old little girl in a sex offender treatment facility after she was abused? The kind that doesn’t want to admit their own guilt for putting the child in an unsafe home that they chose! We need reform!

According to Hughes, the Chair of the Child Support Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court of Iowa “The Supreme Court is asking for an increase of $175 million of our tax money to continue running their ineffective dysfunctional court system that systematically destroys families.” Hughes claims that “nearly a billion dollars is circulated through our court system every year.”

“We have judges sleeping at the bench screwing up people’s lives! We’ve even had a judge with a brain tumor ruling on people’s livelihood!” said Hughes. “It’s time to retire bad judges and throw all the lawyers out of elected offices!”

I couldn’t agree more! This race is like the Local Option Sales Tax race in Cedar Rapids (both of them). The other teams have a lot of money to air attack ads but we aren’t asking for your money to run attack ads all we’re asking for is your vote in November. Vote Greg Hughes for Iowa Congress.

Mainstream Media Misreports the Government Kidnapping of Marine Veteran Brandon Raub

Not only has Brandon Raub been kidnapped by the government but he has been moved three hours away from his family and isn’t being allowed phone calls until they figure out where they want to put him they being the State of Virginia.

I watched the “Fox News Report” and I am not impressed with their reporting. I am thankful that the Rutherford Institute is defending Brandon Raub, a Marine Veteran who exercised his First Amendment rights, his Freedom of Speech. The more I learn about him the more interested I am in seeing him set free.

Here is the story as Fox News perceives it: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/08/20/outcry-after-military-veteran-detained-for-anti-government-facebook-posts/ http://video.foxnews.com/v/1797150992001/

First of all the “special guests” aren’t psychiatrists, and that guy, Fred, he is a former federal prosecutor who had to at some time swear to uphold the Constitution himself! I wonder if he’s ever fought in a war or if any of his children served? It’s no wonder Raub’s mother didn’t trust the Mainstream Media to give her son a fair shake.

Here are some highlights from their interview:

“Brandon J. Raub, 26, has been in custody since FBI, Secret Service agents and police in Virginia’s Chesterfield County questioned him Thursday evening about what they said were ominous posts talking about a coming revolution. In one message earlier this month according to authorities, Raub wrote: “Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads.””

A little research from the news would have been good! That quote is from a song “Sharpen up my ax I am back, I’m here to sever heads” is from a song called “Bring me Down” by Saigon. I’ve seen thousands of posts of people quoting songs. I know that my own kids have done it. I’ve questioned them. No one questioned Brandon but turned him in? Who turned him in?

“The big concern, Whitehead said, is whether government officials are monitoring citizens’ private Facebook pages and detaining people with whom they disagree. “Dee Rybiski, an FBI spokeswoman in Richmond, said there was no Facebook snooping by her agency.”

“We received quite a few complaints about what we’re perceived as threatening posts,” she said. “Given the circumstances with the things that have gone on in the country with some of these mass shootings, it would be horrible for law enforcement not to pay attention to complaints.””

Who did they receive these complaints from? Did the people complaining go down and fill out the proper paperwork to have Brandon committed? Clearly, they did not. I wonder if these complainers ever met Brandon? Now if they had and had worries then I wouldn’t feel so strongly about my wish for him to be let go!

“Raub’s supporters characterized the detention as an arrest, complaining he was handcuffed and whisked away in a police cruiser without being served a warrant or read his rights. But authorities say it wasn’t an arrest because Raub doesn’t face criminal charges.”

HE WAS ARRESTED FOR RESISTING ARREST!

“Col. Thierry Dupuis, the county police chief, said Raub was taken into custody upon the recommendation of mental health crisis intervention workers. He said the action was taken under the state’s emergency custody statute, which allows a magistrate to order the civil detention and psychiatric evaluation of a person who is considered potentially dangerous.”

“He said Raub was handcuffed because he resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.”

This is nothing but rhetoric to justify the upcoming arrests of more of our troops who question/criticize the government. This is wrong and there is nothing “free” about a country that arrests people for disagreeing with them and their policies. ESPECIALLY when these people WENT TO WAR to “protect our freedom”!

Thankfully, we have realistic journalism with Ben Swann and the “Reality Check”

Free Marine Veteran Brandon Raub! The Constitutional Crisis: A Wake up Call for American’s

Are you free? Can you say whatever you want? Do you really have “freedom of speech” in the United States of America? Are you being watched? Can you be arrested for something you type in the heat of the moment? Can you be arrested for posting lyrics to a song that you didn’t write?

The answer to all those questions is YES. You’re free to do all those things but if government officials interpret your postings as a threat they will disrupt your life to detain and study you.

Sadly, in America, not only has someone been arrested for posting lyrics to a song that he didn’t write but he has been detained without any referral by friends or family members. Yes folks, big brother can come and take you from your family to have you evaluated.

Brandon Raub is a Marine Veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Brandon was recently arrested by the FBI and local police for “resisting arrest”. He is being held for thirty days so that the government can study him and conduct an “mental evaluation” all because they didn’t like what he was saying on Facebook.

Where is the mainstream media on this? Well the family clearly doesn’t trust them but they spoke to Adam Kokesh with Adam vs The Man in this exclusive interview.

Brandon Raub’s sister Brittany said “Brandon Raub is the most sane person I know, there is no question about his sanity in anyway” “He loves his country, he is a true patriot.” “He is willing to stand up when others will walk away”. Raub’s brother, Brent Raub, said “the people need to know that they need to question everything, I am not even trying to convince you right now, I would ask that you take this and you go question it” “do not believe everything you hear do not believe the media

Cathleen Thomas, mother of Marine Veteran, Brandon Raub continued saying “alternative sources and places to look for the truth instead of Fox, CNN, and NBC, listen
they’re all bought” okay, they’re all bought, they’re all sold out, and they’re all in bed with “big brother” and they’re not going to tell you the truth and they don’t want to tell you the truth, they want you to be comfortable keeping you where they want you. With emphasis she continues by saying “they create everything that you want to see and they call that truth”

“It’s a dangerous time for our country” said Cathleen. “There are stories going on all over our country, and I mean horrific stories from mothers that I’ve spoken to where their children are being detained, this isn’t new, they’re trying to shut people up.”

The Rutherford Institute is stepping up and offering Raub legal assistance. The Rutherford Institute, is a nonprofit civil liberties organization, that provides legal assistance at no charge to individuals whose constitutional rights have been threatened or violated.

According to a press release written By Ray Daudani of WWBT NBC12 “Law enforcement officials have stated in press reports that Raub was not arrested. However, as attorney John Whitehead points out, if the police have put handcuffs on you and you’re being held against your will, that qualifies as an arrest. In a hearing before a judge on August 20, government officials again pointed to Raub’s Facebook posts as the sole reason for their concern and for his continued incarceration. Ignoring Raub’s explanations about the fact that the FB posts were being read out of context and his attorney’s First Amendment defense, the judge agreed that Raub should be incarcerated at a VA hospital for up to 30 more days. Rutherford Institute attorneys are working to challenge Raub’s detention and the highly unconstitutional nature of the government’s actions.”

Here is a telephone interview Adam Kokesh with Brandon Raub at the John Randolph Medical Center near Richmond, Virginia.

What’s the buzz about anyway? Here is a link with Brandon’s Facebook rants in a video (for those who couldn’t see his Facebook because you refuse to have one) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj4yXCzhsZs

How many other people have been detained for making comments about the government? How many of our vets undergo “mental evaluations” by the government due to their Facebook rants? This is something we should all be alarmed about! There is no liberty. What happened to our Freedom of Speech and expression? Have we lost our way? What are we going to do to get it back? Life is too short to live without liberty!

Why was Marine Vet, Raub Brandon, Arrested? ((Updates))

As this story grows I will continue it on this post.

It started with this video for me:

But it was the story that was on #ABCWorldNews was what caught my attention when it comes to this particular story. Apparently people in Russia have become restless and the leaders have arrested a few of their leaders to send a “message to the masses

Then there was his Mothers plea that nearly made me cry when I read it aloud:

Cathleen Thomas
I ask that you pray for our country and my son Brandon Raub. He has been arrested by the FBI and Secret Service for his CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to express his FREEDOM OF SPEECH on Facebook.

Remember this?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

He is a decorated US MARINE that served in 2 wars for our country.
He is being held for psychiatric evaluation to see if he is “fit for society” they will not tell me where he is and they will not return my phone calls.

I know what they are trying to do, and they will not win. They will try to SLAP PTSD on him, they will say he is unstable. THIS IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT!

Is this what it comes to? Is this MY AMERICA I grew up in? Where are those that are weary of the deliberate stripping and tearing down of our US CONSTITUTION! Were are those that will stand and rise and say “enough is enough” we want out country back. Where are those that adhere, embrace and stand up for the US CONSTITUTION.

I will not be silent, I will not PASSIVELY stand back and do nothing. I will hold the Constitution high and remind our government of our rights. I will lift it up to my Father in heaven and cry GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!

I AM PROUD OF MY SON. He his one of the most logical, clear-minded, stable, LOVER OF GOD and COUNTRY men that I know.

HE is a Patriot whose time has come. Wake up America! Wake UP!

RESISTANCE TO TYRANTS IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD~THOMAS JEFFERSON

Here is the original video I was having difficulty seeing it so I turned it

Why was Raub Brandon Arrested? Was he “detained” for a mental evaluation?

Here is a link to that story (press here)

There was a picture on Facebook that explained that there would be a radio show on this story.

WTPN will be publishing a Liberty Hour radio show special with Brandon J Raub’s brother and mother this evening! Brandon is a WTPN partner and we will stand by him in all ways possible! This is NOT a NDAA issue or is it the result of a bogus CIA list circulating across FaceBook! All available information will be revealed by our guests this evening so please resist the temptation to spread half truths and false information as this will only serve to make this very important story lose all credibility! Thanks for your cooperation and understanding !!! Listen here: http://recordings.talkshoe.com/TC-118018/TS-657110.mp3

Posted by Brent Raub,

Last night, August 16th 2012, around 7:30pm I came home to find Chesterfield County Police cars and civilian looking cars surrounding my home. By the time I arrived my brother was on our porch already in handcuffs.
There were multiple Chesterfield Policemen as well as FBI and Secret Service agents. The agents were in street clothes and some had on sunglass which they refused to remove. I never saw a FBI badge at any point. I have video of a police officer stating it was indeed FBI and Secret Service.
My brother was put into a Chesterfield Police car and driven away. Their reason for taking him specifically is due to facebook posts that are apparently seen as an act of terrorism.

To those of you who question my brother’s motives I say this. He is the most logical and sound minded person I have ever known. Not to mention a Marine and decorated war Hero. His mind is focused and his heart is pure.
He was taken away because he spoke the truth. And, also because someone reported him to the police as a potential threat. To this person, I say shame on you. How dare you. This person does not know my brother and holds no authority to speak on his character.
The truth is Bankers control our Government’s agenda. My brother is a true patriot, who is only attempting to change the country he so dearly loves for the better. Do not shun is methods for he is the true voice of the people.
Now is the time to act and CHANGE this corrupt system that butchers good men.

Press here to listen to the radio story!

Update:

Brandon is being held for 72 hours for evaluation by the powers that be. If you’re able to donate to his legal defense fund here is a link to do so: https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/8LqA0?psid=30813f268825455cb13753f3ef838728

Who is Brandon Raub?

Here is something he wrote in November 2011:

The Truth
by Brandon J Raub on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 7:00am ·

America has lost itself. We have lost who we truly are. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. This is the land of Thomas Jefferson. This is the land of Benjamin Franklin. This is the land of Fredrick Douglas. This is the land of Smedley Butler. This is the land John F. Kennedy. This is the land of Martin Luther King. This is the land where the cowboy wins. This is the land where you can start from the bottom and get to the top. This is the land where regardless of you race and ethnicity you can suceed and build a better life for you and your family. This is the land where every race coexists peacefully. This is the land where justice wins. This is the land where liberty dwells. This is the land where freedom reigns. This is the land where we help the poor, and people help eachother. This is land where people beat racism.

The federal reserve is wrong. They have designed a system based off of gread and fear. They designed a system to crush the middle class between taxes and inflation. This is wrong, and it is unjust. It is wrong.

We have allowed ourselves to be devieced and seduced by the powers of the printing press. It is not a good system. It discourages saving: the foundation for all stable economic activity. The federal reserve is artificially manipulating interests rates and creating phony economic data. This thing has decieved our entire nation.

They created it 1913. They also created the income tax in 1913. They encouraged the growth of debt so they can tax you on it. There is interest on the debt. Your government is in bed with these people. They want to enslave you to the government so that they can control every aspect of your lives. It is an empire based on lies. They operate of greed and fear.

There is a better way. It’s called freedom. Freedom is called a lot of things. But there is a true meaning. It means very simply that you have the right to do whatever you want as long as you are not infringing on the feedoms of other people.

I firmly believe that God set America apart from the other nations of the world. He saved a place where people could come to to escape bad systems of goverment. This system we have created works. It really works.

There is evil going on all around the world. The United States was meant to lead the charge against injustice, but through our example not our force. People do not respond to having liberty and freedom forced on them.

Men and Women follow courage. They follow leadership, and courage. Our example has paved the way for people all around the world to change their forms of goverment.

Force is not the way because liberty is a powerful concept. The idea that men can govern themselves is the basis for every just form of government.

We can govern ourselves. We do not need to be governed by men who want to install a one world banking system. These men have machine hearts. Machine and unnatural hearts. They have blocked out the possibility of a better world. They fear human progress. They have monopolies on everything.

This life can be free and beautiful. There are enough resources on this earth to support the world’s population. There are enough resources on this earth to feed everyone. There is enough land for everyone to own their own land and farm, and produce their own energy.

These people have been hiding technology. There are ways to create power easily. There is technology that can provide free cheap power for everyone. There are farming techniques that can feed the entire world.

They are controlling your media. They have dumbed you down through your school systems. They have systematically dismantled the constitution. It is in rags.

The bill of rights is being systematically dismantled. Men have spilled their blood for those rights.

Your sons and daughters, your brothers and sisters, and Americas best young men and women are loosing their limbs. They are loosing their lives. They are loosing the hearts. They do not know why they are fighting. They are killing. And they do not know why.

They have done some extroadinary acts. Their deeds go before them. But these wars are lies. They are lies. They decieved our entire nation with terrorism. They have gotten us to hand them our rights. Our Rights! Men died for those rights!

September Eleventh was an inside job. They blew up a third building in broad daylight. Building 7.

Your leaders betrayed you.

You elected an aristocracy. They are beholden to special interests. They were brainwashed through the Council on Foreign Relations. Your leaders are planning to merge the United States into a one world banking system. They want to put computer chips in you.

These men have evil hearts. They have tricked you into supporting corporate facism. We gave them the keys to our country. We were not vigilant with our republic.

There is hope. BUT WE MUST TAKE OUR REPUBLIC BACK.

It’s no wonder Brandon’s mother didn’t want Fox News doing this story. They painted him in a bad light and didn’t even do their homework. All the more reason not to see them as credible. Journalist Adam Mueller aka Ademo Freeman faces 21 years in Prison in New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state for Bogus Wiretapping Charge

There is a Cedar Rapids connection to the cop watching journalist, Adam Mueller, who will face a jury in a trial next week on a New Hampshire wiretapping case. If convicted, Adam faces up to twenty-one years in prison.

I came into contact with Copblock.org a little more than a year ago when I wasn’t getting results from my local police department. I submitted a speech to Copblock.org that I had already delivered in front of my city council on June 14, 2010. My hope was that the national exposure would create positive change in our community and in my opinion it has. http://www.copblock.org/tag/ajai-dittmar/

Adam Mueller aka Ademo Freeman, was the person in which I had exchanged a few emails with before the speech was published on Copblock.org. Adam or Ademo of Copblock.org is dedicated to voluntarism and police accountability.

Adam’s charges stem from an incident he reported on that took place in a New Hampshire High School where a sibling spat turned bad when a Police Liaison slung the teen around and then slammed his head into a table at the schools cafeteria.

I don’t know whether officials are charging Adam with wiretapping to teach him and people like him a lesson or if they are trying to cover up something bigger at the high school. In my opinion, the school should be looked into along with the police liaison over the school. As a mother I would be appalled if either one of my son’s were slammed to the table at lunch over teasing their sister with her handbag. I could see my kids doing exactly what these kids did which in my opinion is perfectly normal.

Of fifty states, twelve of them make publicizing taped interviews a crime punishable by prison New Hampshire, the Live Free or Die state is on that list. One would think that in this day and age with all the technological advances we’ve made that these types of draconian laws would be thrown out.

Adam’s supporters were there in the courtroom with him after standing outside the courthouse in protest. Adam is representing himself pro se (defending himself without an attorney) and his jury was chosen on Monday, August 6, 2012. A camera was allowed into the courtroom.

Stop the State of New Hampshire from convicting Adam, write his lawmakers, make videos asking for his freedom, and spread the word about this case! http://electedlist.com/New_Hampshire.html

I wrote Adam a letter and thanked him for all he has done. The world is not a safer place with Adam behind bars. The trial begins on August 13, 2012. I will keep everyone who’s interested posted. http://www.scribd.com/collections/3735171/The-State-of-NH-vs-Adam-Mueller-aka-Ademo-Freeman here is Adam’s paperwork from the courts. If you have any ideas that could help Adam please don’t hesitate to contact Copblock.org

Meantime use the hashtag #FreeAdemo and help remind people these draconian laws still exist! http://www.copblock.org/18955/ademos-jury-selection-done-trial-in-one-week/

By the way, for my local news agencies, CNN has reported the story and it would be nice if you mentioned it too. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-824678

New Hampshire “Live Free or Die” State Locks up Journalist Ademo Freeman aka Adam Mueller

NH v Mueller Jury Instructions – "State’s" Request 1

NH v Mueller Jury Instructions – "State’s" Request 2

Plea Offer – NH v Mueller Docket No 11-CR-1055

Live Free or Die? What kind of motto is that in a state that locks someone up for doing something we are guaranteed in the United States Constitution- Freedom of Press.

Adam Mueller is facing 21 years for reporting the truth about an incident in a New Hampshire High School. Adam is a journalist who was doing what journalists do. I appreciate Adam’s candid reporting.

I would think that our schools would rather have our children safe than worry about the reputation of a bunch of unbridled adults. Why aren’t these officials being held to a higher standard?

Adam has done a lot on a national scale to help common people root out bad officials and he should not be in jail for it. Free Ademo

#FreeAdemo!

In my opinion, it is treasonous to lock someone up for reporting the truth to the public! Imprisoning Adam Mueller is a waste of taxpayers money!

If Ron Paul doesn’t get the nomination ~ Plan B ~ Gary Johnson For the Cause of Liberty

Finally some answers and a voice of reason! I think that Ron Paul took these questions with ease and that there is no other candidate who gets grilled like the doctor. I love how he tiptoes all over the presidential nomination. Don’t want to jinx it you know! Just if we are betrayed by Ron Paul and he endorses Mitt Romney I want to make certain I have studied all the candidates before I vote.

If Ron Paul does get the nomination will Gary Johnson drop his bid for president? Wouldn’t that greatly improve the republican’s chances to beat Obama in November? I think it would. At this point there is a fine line between being republican and libertarian. I’ve seen these parties work in harmony with each other and good things can come from it but I just don’t see Romney beating Obama without them.

We already know that neither Mitt or Obama are interested in the cause of liberty and that they were both bought and paid for by special interests who don’t have our best interests at heart.

Time for a crash course on Gary Johnson. It’s never good to put all your eggs into one basket anyway.
I read this article and did a quiz from the article and found that I agree with Gary Johnson on 95% of the issues that are important to me.

I am an avid Ron Paul supporter and found that I agree with him on 89% of the issues important to me.

The way I see it is Gary Johnson is more likely to change the cabinet than Romney. I could see Gary giving Ron Paul a cabinet position of his choice. I would rather vote for anyone other than the lesser of the two evils! Gary Johnson being blacked out by the media and tirelessly doing Youtube interviews with hundreds of people across the country is impressive to me. He isn’t waging $10,000 bets on national television and he is engaged to be married so he doesn’t have a wife driving a Cadillac who’s never worked a day in her life.

As an average American who does use the internet and social media as a tool to gather my information I feel that in order to move towards the cause of liberty that we must be willing to work with others to ensure the strongest possibility of getting this done before another hundred years goes by. Independent voters must unite and decide- do we want another four years of bickering party politics or do we want a radical change?

The U.S. House 1st Districts Republican race for Congress heats up as the June 5th Primary nears

The Iowa Republicans of District 1 have not yet chosen a nominee for the Congressional races; that will be determined at the June 5th primaries.

There are two candidates on the ballot and one candidate with an enthusiastic group of grassroots supporters working on a write in campaign. The three candidates are parallel in many ways but they are incredibly different from one another. In the end it all comes down to who would be the strongest candidate to take on Democratic Congressman, Bruce Braley.

Former congressional candidate Steve Rathje has a strong following as a write in candidate. His supporters have been feverishly working the social networking sites and sending emails in search of support. Rathje’s supporters argue that the bar be raised within the party. They aren’t satisfied with either of the two candidates on the ballot. For more information on Steve Rathje’s write in campaign please visit: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003823120547

In Ben Lange’s latest ad he stated “For centuries American progress has depended upon a generational compact in which each generation creates the conditions for the next generation to live better than the last” he continues “The current political leadership has indebted my girls to the tune of $150,000 before they can even ride a bike.” Ben has been big on the budget that Bruce Braley only recently became interested in fixing. “Our national debt has skyrocketed to $16 trillion and DC politicians now borrow $0.40 of every dollar spent.” -Ben Lange

Ben Lange’s name might sound familiar but that’s because he ran against Braley in 2010 and we were saturated with television ads of those two bantering back and forth. That was before the district lines changed. Lange lost that election by less than 2% of the vote. Will the district changes help or hurt Lange in the primary? We will soon find out! For more information on Ben Lange please visit: http://www.langeforcongress.com/

Finally, there is the black sheep of the ticket, Rod Blum. Blum is an enthusiastic liberty candidate from Dubuque who is clearly not one of our typical “politicians”. Blum has vowed to take a cut in pay down to the average American’s income and even wants to limit his own term.

Blum has spoken out against NDAA, the National Defense Authorization Act that allows the government to detain American’s without any probable cause & denies them due process. And he has spoken out against the latest Act the government is attempting to push through Congress called CISPA, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing Protection Act, an act that allows government officials to spy on your online activities, it’s similar to SOPA: Stop Online Piracy Act, a bill that Congressman Bruce Braley voted against. For more information on Rod Blum visit: http://rodblum.com/

I feel great pressure to endorse one of the three candidates for the June 5 primary but after meeting all three of them I have come to the conclusion that I won’t even know until I am in the voting booth. Getting to know the candidates is good but sometimes it only makes it more difficult to choose! On a personal level, I like all three of them! All three of them have great potential and would make fine nominees for the Republican Party .

No matter who it is they are up against a man who is very popular among voters. Braley, is, in a lot of ways—is the liberty candidate in the Democratic Party and oftentimes votes against the grain on controversial issues. This is going to be a heated race no matter who takes the republican nomination after the June 5 Primary!

I urge people to research their candidates and to reach out now, while they are in campaign mode, because once they do go to work to represent us they suddenly become harder to reach!

“What Being A Republican Means To Me!” by Steve Rathje

“What Being A Republican Means To Me!”
by Steve Rathje on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:34pm
Republicans; it’s not what we are that separates us from politics as usual, it’s who we are. And once we compromise who we are, the vary foundation on which we stand begins to crumble. Remaining forever vigilant to our values and principles regardless of opinion, defines us as those that live for the future, and learn from the past.

We as true Republicans, Conservatives, Constitutional Patriots, believe that less government, a strong military and strong family values are the three core constitutionally based principles by which our Republic was founded, and should therefore be governed and represented accordingly. Any compromise to these key principles reflects nothing more than an exercise in mediocrity, a lack of integrity, and an unwillingness to stand up for what we truly believe.

Integrity says it all, it means adhering to a firm code of ethical standards, to rise above the fray and maintain a strong moral character, regardless of opinion. It’s about honesty and truth, and the willingness to stand up for both, but most of all it’s about you, the heart that beats within you, the conscience that guides you, and the soul that will one day leave you. Freedom and liberty are not determined by politicians, political parties or governments, but rather guaranteed by natures God, and within that guarantee fall certain responsibilities to all mankind, to protect and preserve that which is most sacred to life as we believe it to be.

Being a true Republican isn’t about being a member of an organization. It’s about a way of life. It’s about God and natures law. It’s about Freedom and Liberty and the opportunities they bring. It’s about free markets and capitalism, and the ability to earn and live the American dream, and it’s about humanity and the right to personally choose how to support those less fortunate. Republicans are made up of those that empower rather than enable. They take personal responsibility and accountability for who and what they are, and they are unafraid to stand on the principles instilled in them by the One that placed them upon this earth. I’m proud to be a Republican, and I’m honored to be your friend!

The Presidential Race is Rigged with RUMney

After working for the last year to get the presidential candidate who most appealed to me on the Republican Ticket I have come to realize that my efforts are futile. The Republican Party does not want to “grow the party” nor do they want to attract the youth vote. There is no grassroots support for Romney on the ground and certainly no enthusiasm. Romney doesn’t give us anything but what we already got.

I have been voting for twenty years on establishment candidates and now see that my votes were nothing but a facade, a silly game and I really thought that somehow I made a difference. Boy was I wrong.

I have told many people that they can’t complain if they don’t vote but I am changing my mind on that! I refuse to compromise my principles to vote for the lesser of two evils and if others would do the same we could have changed the direction our country is going long ago. It’s too late for that though.

I wanted my kids to have a good future but there is no way that the “powers that be” will allow that. This was made clear last night and continues to be pumped out on the television set all day. If more people unplugged the television and got involved we would have less corruption but I think people are tired. I know I am.

Once this election is over and Obama wins instead of complaining at people who don’t vote I am going to start complaining to people who do. All it does is encourage corruption and I am not going to ever be exploited again.

I hope Ron Paul does takes the nomination but the LAME media and the Republican National Committee has already handed the ticket to Romney. See, Romney won’t win and nothing Ron Paul could say would get me to vote for him.

What do I hope for out of this? I hope that it’s exposed and that people understand they are being lied to. See, we picked Ron Paul but we were told we had to support Romney. That’s not how I understood the game to be played! Then again, we are dealing with Mitt Romney, once a bully always a bully.

Co-Founder of Dubuque Tea Party Endorses Rod Blum

Co-Founder of Dubuque Tea Party Endorses Rod Blum for U.S. Congress

Republican Congressional Candidate Rod Blum received yet another endorsement from a Tea
Party founder in U.S. Congressional District 1 on Monday. Last week Blum received the
endorsement of Cedar Rapids Tea Party Founder Tim Pugh.

Michael Heeren, co-founder of the Dubuque Tea Party, commended Blum on his campaign
organization and his willingness to stand up to the status quo in Washington DC.

“The Tea-Party in Dubuque was founded on three core principles that are important to all
Republican voters” Heeren said. “Mr. Blum strongly believes in limited government, fiscal
responsibility and free markets. He will stand up to Washington insiders, reduce
Congressional salary and represent the views of Tea Party Iowans and Tea Party voters
everywhere. His grassroots campaign is organized and strong throughout the district. ”

“I am humbled and honored to receive Mr. Heeren’s endorsement” Blum said. “Though
America is struggling right now, I am optimistic about our future because I am witnessing an
increasing number of citizens in this country who are willing to stand up to Washington DC. I
believe the phenomenon of the Tea Party movement is the greatest example of grassroots
citizenship I have seen in this country in my lifetime”.

Blum, a Dubuque entrepreneur, will face a primary challenge from Buchanan lawyer Ben
Lange for the opportunity to challenge Rep. Bruce Braley, a Waterloo Democrat. Lange was
defeated by Braley in 2010.

“Freezing spending does nothing!” by Steve Rathje

“Freezing spending does nothing!”

by Steve Rathje on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 8:02am

Below is a piece I wrote as a Guest Column for the Cedar Rapids Gazette dated December 5, 2010. I’m reposting it due to its relevance after hearing comments made toward Gov. Romney and his role in doing what was necessary to ‘save’ companies while being employed by Bain Capital. After you read this piece, I think you’ll be asking yourself why some choose to belittle capitalism (however unintended), rather than explain as I have what really needs to be done. Gov. Romney did for Bain Capital exactly what my consulting firm does for some of it’s customers. When companies are going under and find themselves no longer able to compete in the ‘Free Market’ there are but a few choices to make, of which ‘no one’ wants to. I hope you’ll take a moment to read this and afterwards please drop a comment as I’d really like to know what you think.

On November 29th, President Obama announced that he was imposing a two-year freeze in the wages of federal employees, with the intention of saving $60 billion over the next 10 years.

Question; How does freezing wages at their current level actually provide a savings?

Answer; It doesn’t! To actually provide a ‘physical savings’ cuts not freezing, need to take place. Otherwise, what is being described as savings is merely, in all reality, preventative spending, two very separate things. This freeze as they call it is nothing more than a shell game to get taxpayers to believe that the government is serious about saving money and reducing spending.

Let’s look at this from a common sense point of view. Let’s say you own a company, and that company spends a million dollars a year on payroll, payroll that it can no longer afford. Do you freeze future wage increases to save or reduce capital expenditures? No! Rather, you cut current wages and benefits immediately while analyzing the necessity of the current labor force. All departments have to participate with unnecessary personnel from each department receiving a furlough. Duties are combined wherever possible. Feasibility studies are made to determine internal costs vs. subcontracted ones. Budgets are brought inline with revisions being made, and prices are cut to stimulate sales in order to boost profits and become economically solvent again.

Keep this in mind. The average wage of a federal employee is right at $100K p/year, that in and of itself is a recipe for disaster. Why, because federal employees produce nothing that can be sold at a profit. They are what we in business call indirect labor, that is labor that cannot pay for itself. This type of labor is what companies try to eliminate altogether or at the very least, keep to a bare minimum. Indirect labor merely adds to government overhead, which increases costs/taxes and doesn’t add anything to the GDP in the process.

Using 2009 numbers, which are more than likely, due to historical fact, the most accurate numbers we have that can be trusted, there are, as of January 2009, 2,748,978 civilian federal employees in the United States government. This is according to the Federal Employment Statistics published by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Employees with security agencies (CIA, NSA, etc) as well as the Military and National Imagery and Mapping Agency are not included in this number.

During this time, 97.6% of civilian federal employees worked in the executive branch of federal government with a total payroll that exceeded $275 billion per year.

So what should we do? First of all, let’s cut all federal employee wages, with the exception of the CIA, NSA, etc., as well as the Military, National Imagery and Mapping Agencies by 15% immediately. That in and of itself will save $41.235 Billion per year or $412.346 Billion over 10 years even if no reduction in federal employees ever takes place. In addition, all government pensions and benefits (except the aforementioned) must be reviewed and reduced to levels commensurate with industry standards. I would also strongly suggest a 25% reduction in federal employees once feasibility studies are completed by an independent agency or agencies, and a determination made as to how many federal jobs can actually be provided by private sector companies. Based once again on 2009 numbers, a 25% cut in personnel would reduce the number of federal employees by 687,244, with an income averaging $100K p/yr, reflects an annual savings of $68.724 Billion or $687.245 Billion over 10 years.

So to sum it up, reducing federal employees by 25% or 687,244, and immediately cutting the average wage by 15%, saves the American taxpayer $120.268 Billion p/yr or $1.203 Trillion over a 10 year period. Imagine the message that would send to friend and foe alike.

How many folks reading this article, have been laid off? How many of you have gone to work one day, only to find yourself being called into the office to receive a pink slip? No one, especially your employer, likes to be placed in this situation. But in order to remain in business and continue to produce a viable product to the public, drastic measures like these are unfortunately necessary.

We all know too well how the size of government directly affects the economic wellbeing of America. Government must be reduced wherever possible, spending must be reigned in and waste a thing of the past. The shell game that’s being played by our elected representatives must come to an end, because if it doesn’t, America as we know it will become nothing more than a pawn in a game of cat and mouse where there are no winners, only losers.

Lange’s opponent was also offered the opportunity to participate in debate at an April forum in Benton County but declined to respond to the invitation.

Ben Lange is a faithful husband and loving dad to three little girls. He grew up in a working class family in Quasqueton, IA. He was the first in his family to earn a four-year college degree. Ben was the 2010 Republican Nominee for U.S. Congress in Iowa’s 1st congressional district. After winning his Primary by 30 points, he united the Republican Party and, despite being outspent by Braley’s campaign committee nearly 5 to 1, Ben held Braley to less than 50% of the total vote and fell short by a mere 1.95%. Today, Ben has established one of the state’s best organizational and financial infrastructures. He has recruited a Steering Committee consisting of a broad coalition of activists, officials, and community leaders to help guide his candidacy, and he has earned the support of Republican state senators and representatives throughout the new 1st district.

Randi Shannon’s Stand on Certain Issues

Christian Just War Theory

The appropriate reasons for going to war.

To go to war or not, is NOT within the realm of a state legislator’s job. However, just to be on record, I am including that I only support the cause of war when it applies to the Christian Just War theory as proposed by Augustine of Hippo in defense of innocents.

Thomas Aquinas, centuries later, used the authority of Augustine’s arguments in an attempt to define the conditions under which a war could be just:

First, war must occur for a good and just purpose rather than for self-gain or as an exercise of power.

Second, just war must be waged by a properly instituted authority such as the state.

Third, peace must be a central motive even in the midst of violence.

Opposition to National Defense Authorization Act components that nullify the 4th amendment

Randi Shannon opposes all law or color of law including NDAA 2012, The Patriot Act and executive orders that try to reduce the protections and natural rights of the 4th and 6th Amendments. I patently and thoroughly oppose any provisions of the NDAA 2012, The Patriot Act, any executive order or any law or color of law that nullifies any part of the 4th or 6th Amendments, Habeas Corpus, or the privacy of the people of the United States.

Marriage: does government come before God?

God gives us rights, not government. I personally believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. But also to note, that God gave us the right to be married and it is an unalienable right of the likes of which is mentioned by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence. (Unalienable rights endowed by our Creator.)

Question: Is marriage an unalienable right?

Answer: Yes. Marriage is an Unalienable right.

Question: If marriage is an unalienable right, then how can governments require that people get marriage licenses?

Answer: Governments cannot. Our unalienable rights are established by natural law; therefore, marriage exists outside and beyond the realm of government control. Statutes can only recognize and protect our inalienable rights. Statutes can not establish, authorize, regulate, or infringe upon our unalienable rights and any statutes which attempt to do so are automatically void and must be ignored. The marriage license is a clear violation of our unalienable rights.

What is the difference between a child one minute before birth and one minute after?

I am a pro-life Christian. I believe in following the admonition of Christ, to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and that means not killing you just because you are small.

I believe it is the duty of a republican form of government to protect the most innocent of lives, and there is no difference between a child one minute before birth and one minute after birth. We have every duty to protect children, even unborn children.

One thing that I’ve come to realize is that the vast majority of people who identify as pro-choice are not pro-abortion. I also realize that the arguments on all sides are locked in partisan gridlock. This is shameful. For decades the emotionally charged rhetoric on both sides has left all parties unhappy with the outcome. Also we must never expect those opposed to abortion to finance it in any way because this is a cruel offense to our liberties.

We must not only approach this issue with a consistent moral filter, we must approach this issue from a civic-minded, logical, and success-oriented standpoint. The vast majority of reasonable people do not want unborn children to be aborted. The vast majority of people also understand that the life of the mother consideration, rape or incest and preventative health care measures such as contraception are best left up to a woman and her partner and their doctor or religious leader.

A good way to judge the strength of a society is to observe how the weakest among them are treated. Although my own personal beliefs have led me to be fundamentally opposed to abortion, my first goal is to lower the number of abortions, significantly.

Life is precious, fragile, and in need of protection. Women, children, and families are a vital part of our foundation. We must improve the economy for our most vulnerable. We must strive to have a strong and effective educational policy so all our children and mothers have a better future. We must have strong hospitals where women are provided the best information and resources to make informed decisions for themselves.

I am a champion for people’s personal liberties and this includes respecting the God-given right to life—for those born and unborn.

2nd Amendment: Here’s my license and permit!

The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution further defines the right to bear arms as one of the inalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. That means that the right to bear arms is meant to be all exclusive and unless a man has committed a heinous crime, that right shall never be infringed. Furthermore, it should not require a license, permit nor permission of any kind of the government so long as you are a law abiding citizen who has not committed a violent felony.

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” (James Madison, The Federalist Papers #46 at 243-244)

If we ever were to become disarmed then it would not be very long before we could no longer protect what freedoms we have left. While all rights come from God, they are protected by guns and men willing to fight for those rights.

I carry a copy of the Constitution around with me everywhere I go. That is my permit.

Property Rights: Forced Annexation

Forced Annexation is when a municipality is able to annex adjacent people and land without their permission.

I oppose forced annexation in its entirety.

Taxes

Taxes have to be reduced and to keep the budget balanced, spending has to be reduced as well. For every dollar collected in taxes, that is one dollar that is taken out of productive Iowan’s pockets and that means they cannot spend it and help create more production among their neighbors. Regardless of the method of collection of taxes, the higher the taxes, the more it hurts the economy and reduces the amount of goods produces which means that the standard of living is reduced (people become poorer). I personally hate taxes :0)))

Taxes: Income Taxes

When the Income Tax was introduced in 1913 (a very bad year for the history of America) it was 1% on incomes above $3000 and 2-7% on income between $20k-$500k. Now it is much higher. Tax slavery was born. Frank Chodorov wrote “Whichever way you turn this amendment, you come up with the fact that it gives the government a prior lien on all the property produced by its subjects.” What principle does government think that they can tax our labor? That they can even require to know our income? There is none. (and personally i do not believe this was ever ratified)

For a wage earner to become an entrepreneur and drive his own success, he needs to be able to save his money tax free if he desires so that he can invest in his own talents when he has enough. Not keep paying IA and Uncle Sam the biggest chunk of his pay preventing him from ever advancing.

While we cannot just reduce income taxes to zero overnight, we need to work on a plan to reduce them steadily.

Taxes: No Corporate Tax

Corporate taxes are all passed on to the customer. A business still has to make a profit, so the business has to raise the selling price of their goods 6.9% just to maintain their profit. All corporate taxes are paid by the consumer. Since this tax is hidden, many consumers don’t even realize they are paying the tax. Combined with multiple other kinds of taxes, the consumer actually pays close to half of their income in taxes by the end.

Corporate taxes also put an undue burden on businesses and make it harder for them to compete nationally since they have to raise their prices the 6-7%, states with lower or no corporate tax will be able to maintain the same profit but sell their product for less. Those states will get all the business and our businesses will struggle. Getting rid of corporate tax will make Iowa very attractive place to do business and will bring new businesses to our state.

Taxes: Reduce Capital Gains Tax

Capital Gains Tax is like the income tax, taxes paid on money you earned from putting your money to work for you in investments. Taxing this money means less money is invested. Those investments drive new businesses and improves production. Production is what raises the standard of living for everyone by driving prices of goods lower so that more people can enjoy them. Taxing capital gains hurts the ability for investment in new production. Just like income tax, I would like to see capital gains reduced until we get to zero.

Taxes: FairTax

The FairTax is a plan for the aboloshment of the IRS and all Federal Taxes except a universal excise tax (sales tax). The plan has included a prebate for everyone, which means that those living below the poverty level would pay zero taxes and now they pay many hidden taxes. (And that is good, why would we want people who aren’t surviving very well to pay taxes?) But since everyone gets the prebate, the government wouldn’t be tracking your income and whatever level the poverty level is set at, everyone gets the same benefit. You get the same prebate whether you make $20k a year or $200k. You only pay taxes in this system when you make a purchase of a new item. Thus if you bought used items, or you went without spending your entire paycheck, you could save money tax-free to invest in yourself.

I support the FairTax system in its entirety, however, the FairTax is revenue neutral and thus I believe that still too much in taxes is collected. The Federal government needs to drastically cut its expenditures and doing so would allow the FairTax amount to be cut as well.

While I believe that Iowa needs to go to a state version of the FairTax, we must be careful that even though that since there are fewer collections of taxes (only property and excise) that we lower the expenditures of the state so that the percentage of the tax can stay low and unobtrusive.

In the end, regardless of the tax collection method, the entire amount has to be reduced significantly.

Nullification & Interposition

Individuals have the moral right to maintain and protect their sovereign rights from any level of government. States have the duty either as individual states, or as groups of states, to defend the rights of their citizens from overreaching actions by the Federal Government.

The Supremacy Clause in the Constitution only applies specifically to the enumerated duties of the Federal Government. Any action outside of those specifically enumerated duties is unconstitutional immediately and does not require the Supreme Court to rule it as such, although it is their duty to do so.

Some examples of the many current issues that need to be addressed by Nullification:

- Agenda 21: the United Nations, without permission from anyone, will be able to take control of any private property if they (without US review) deem a property to cause too much pollution. Essentially the UN will then be able to stop any building of anything, even people’s homes, if they choose.

- NDAA: The most recent National Defense Authorization Act included language that allows American citizens to be detained indefinitely without charge and without ability to a trial or habeas corpus thus negating the 4th Amendment.

- Obamacare: While wishing that people could all get adequate health care is a noble ideal, that cannot happen by government mandate. Instead, we have severe violations of privacy, limits on your ability to seek health care and hundreds of other issues (maybe even death panels!) The Federal Government has no right to force us to purchase health care or give up our private medical information to the government.

Individual Sovereignty

The Declaration of Independence specifically demonstrates that the American people recognized their own sovereignty as individuals, that we are either made sovereign by Natural Law (see John Locke) or our unalienable rights endowed by our Creator.

The Chamber of Compost Gazette is dutifully feeding a continuing stream of slop in anticipation of the Gambling Commission coming to CR on April 3rd.

Doubtless, they will tour the scene of the anticipated crime; the casino site. Perhaps protestors should be present. The assembled Chamber Pots would not like non “Good people of Cedar Rapids” detracting from their dog & pony plea for a casino monopoly.

lindale brawl

I don’t know what this fight was over but I think it sucks that innocent bystanders were hurt during this altercation.  There were chairs flying all over the place! I don’t blame people from one place for all the troubles we have here in Cedar Rapids.   Not all the people who live in Cedar Rapids that make trouble are from Chicago. Some of them are from Indiana, California, Louisiana, and yes, some of them are from here.

Iowa Live: 62% LOST VOTE SHORT OF 67% BOND PASSAGE LEVEL

Greetings, Gazette Editorial Board and all—

Gazette Reporter Rick Smith got it right.   Cedar Rapids streets have been mismanaged into such “awful” shape voters had no choice but to swallow City Hall corruption and pass an unneeded $180 million sales tax increase–in the  dismal hopes Corbett and his pals would actually fix the streets.

Gloating Corbett and his pals are reminded they spent nearly $700,000 and won only 1 out of 3—and the 62% vote was far short of 67% needed to pass a bond issue to fix the streets.

Does this mean Corbett and his pals will clean up their acts?  Not likely, is the best answer at this time!

They and others of their ilk in Marion, must be watched much more closely than in the past!!

Sept 10- Vote Out School Board Members

The vote is not being publicized, has become a hidden footnote to the PPEL vote. You vote at high schools, not your polling place. Low turnout means they win. They want more of our dollars, and they want to keep the same people in to waste them. No more taxes, AND it’s time to vote them out.
